Anaheim won't need capspace for the duration of Rakell's contract. If I'm Anaheim's GM and trading Rakell to a contender I would absolutely offer retention to get an extra asset back. Rakell at $1.8m x 2 years would open up the market for more teams to get involved and thereby fetch a super nice haul.

I'd do everything but pieterangelo and donskoi moves

If we don't sign Pietrangelo then there's no reason to pay an extra 2nd for retention on Rakell. And without Pietrangelo it would be risky to trade Timmins.

Not if we kept zadorov

If we're signing Pietrangelo at $9m+ then it's not really prudent to keep Zadorov on the 3rd pairing for $3.5m+
