McMichael, Jensen, 2nd for Dumba is a no.

Jensen, 1st for Dumba is a conversation. Caps can add a minor piece or two (mid/low roster player, mid pick)

Mcmichael was kinda the main piece coming back. I figured Caps were a bit weak after Carlsson on the right side and so I thought Dumba would be appealing, but I guess not.

I would happily swap in Spurgeon for Dumba in this deal!

Okay. If McMichael is going out them more needs to come in. The Caps have a big problem, they only have one forward on the roster under 26, Vrana. Young F talent is a premium for them, and McMichael is very good. He is very good to start, but the Caps situation make his "value to the Caps" much higher. Also their cap situation... adding $6M would be tough.

So, it's not that McMichael's real value is through the roof, but the Caps situation makes it so. Something more like McMichael, Jensen for Dumba, 2nd, 5-10 rank F prospect as the opening discussion point.

You're probably right on what Caps would ask for just saying Dumba is a lot to give up in return for a unproven nhl play, though Mcmichael looks very promising. I know the GM wants to keep a eye towards the future, but his ultimate goal has to be win now since Ovi and Backstrom are getting near the end.
I would guess there probably isn't a deal to be made with Caps on this, but thanks for your opinion.

To be honest, the $6M might be the even bigger problem for the Caps than getting any kind of value worked out.

I wouldn't be opposed to retaining if that's what Wild need to do, and if the Caps had a different cap dump they wanted to send to Minnesota that would be worth considering as well, as far as prospects I would consider trading I think Wild would probably be willing to move Beckman, but in the end the deal would look pretty complex and highly unlikely.

Work something around Oshie?

You wanted McMihael... that would end up a much larger trade overall.

I'll have to try and work that out in a ACGM. Oshie is a MN kid so instantly the Wild are interested he is also moderately productive but he is long in the tooth with 5 years to go, and Wild have a few too many of those contracts. If Wild didn't have Zuccarello then I would definitely say yes, but since they do I have to say maybe.

I didn't mention to your "win now" point... The Penguins have f'd themselves in the A doing that. Chicago, Detroit... I am not saying that the Caps should ignore the "now", which is why I am not just saying that they nix the deal overall. I am simply adding, openly adding, a premium because of x-y-z.

Again, not because McMichael's real value is this high, it just is to the Caps because of their F age situation... I had countered with McMichael, Jensen for Dumba, 2nd, 5-10 rank F prospect, but then realized that the cap would not be friendly for the Caps.

Recounter... and I am NOT going to be THAT guy that says "Fiala". I also suspect that Kaprizov is a no as that would negate the reason for trading for McMichael in the first place.

McMichael, Jensen for Dumba, 2nd, 5-10 rank F prospect
to
McMichael, Jensen, Oshie for Dumba, 2nd, Greenway, Beckman, Firstov

It looks like I added 3 names to the Wild side but one of those replaced the "5-10 rank F prospect" from the prior version, so really only 2 names were added

Pulling back a little, maybe drop the 2nd?
McMichael, Jensen, Oshie for Dumba, Greenway, Beckman, Firstov

or flip in Lodina but replace the pick?
McMichael, Jensen, Oshie for Dumba, Greenway, Beckman, Lodnia, 3rd

Wild would likely take the McMichael, Jensen, Oshie for Dumba, Greenway, Beckman, Lodnia, 3rd trade, contingent upon them finding a deal that takes either Zuccarello or Parise off the books.
