The Leafs get killed on this trade .3 roster players our best rhd prospect when Cog is gone next year and Kling in 2 sub Faksa or Hintz for Cog and then we have something to talk about . We just tried Tyson Barrie a offensive first rhd did not work out very well

The same people that cry about Jeremy bracco being good and being blocked cry when "roster players" are moved for studs.

    Brutal

Sorry, it's a crazy RHD obsession that so many have. God, how is Klingberg gonna make all that difference to the Leaf when 3 regulars are traded for him. How did Klingberg and his ability to shoot right help the Stars? 2 playoff appearances in five years. Two playoff round wins. Why do so many think the Leafs Dman are so bad. Look at Nashville and their highly regarded expensive Dman. Allows 8 fewer goals than the Leafs. Washington and their high profile Dmen...12 fewer goals. Really crazy bad trade just to add a RHD.

Guess you should trade Matthew's for eller. How good could Matthew's be if you cant win a round and eller has a cup. Horrible logic.

"Regulars" is so embarrassing from a fanbase that pimps Jeremy bracco as simply being blocked and says Robertson is destined to be teemu selanne

In his three years in the NHL, Matthew has made the playoffs, certainly Klingberg just getting to playoffs isn't guaranteed. When I Leaf hater likes the trades and think s the Leafs would benefit, you have to know it's absolutely crappy deal for the Leaf. I can look at this trade logically and it's not a good deal for the Leafs for the next two years or in the years after that.

Because you over value the mediocrity you are trading. Klingberg gets nylander. Otherwise move on

Just to add to your thought. I thought Barrie was the worse Leaf Dman last season, and probably Ceci was the next worse. They aren't coming back. So I'll go with Reilly, Muzzin, Holl, Dermot as solid NHLers. Then it's a big of a hope that Sandin, Lehoten, Liljegren, and Marincin can carry the load all season. Sure the Leafs might have add a competent Dman. But weakening the roster now and in the future as suggested the post isn't the way to do.

Seem like you overvalue mediocrity, Klingberg......6 goals, 26 assists, minus 10. Last thing the Leafs need is another Tyson Barrie

Agree if we add a d man must be a defense first who can work with MR.I think we should see what we have in Lehtonen

Who is the stud in this trade Jason Alexander or Jeremy Bracco ?

To be fair, any unbiased fan knows Bracco has only AHL trade value. His chances are abeing a NHLer are remote.

Agree to disagree. The idea behind the stars side of it is you make this trade then move Rig and Fox for picks and sign Pietrangelo. I like what it does for the lineup now and in the future. Klinger only has two years remaining and will be looking for big money at the age of 29/30 (not sure which not going through the mess of looking up his birthday etc). Get hung up on the name and Norris votes if you want to

The lineup looks fine this year, but with Benn, Seguin, and now Pietrangelo all on massive contracts until their mid-late 30's, it sets up for a pretty monumental rebuild that's going to take quite a while for the Stars to come out of. If Dallas doesn't win the Cup within the next 2 seasons, they likely aren't even competitive until Benn's contract is up. Why commit to Pietrangelo for 7-years until he's 37 instead of giving that same contract to a younger Klingberg?

Fair Dallas trade. Definitely a high risk trade for the Leafs but if they win the cup in those 2 years it's worth it.

Sens say no to that deal though. Probably takes a 2nd or 3rd for them to take that contract.

I'm just saying that if we want a "true" 1RHD this is the cost. I think we're a lot better off sticking with what we've got though.

This is not what a true 1RHD costs. You know what it costs. You all know what it costs. It’s Nylander + something else of value. Collectively, leafs land have tried every combination of four random things that no one really wants in the context of a top pair D. It doesn’t work. Dallas would laugh this offer out of the building.

Those 3 regulars are easy replaceable because they aren’t good. This deal is so bad for Dallas it’s silly, despite the fact that one random player doesn’t have a cup...cmon. What the heck is this logic?

I would imagine the deal being similar to the Ryan McDonagh trade, although it was pretty well known that the Rangers were not vying for a playoff run, like Dallas currently is. I would think it would be something along these lines:

    Toronto Maple Leafs
    John Klingberg
    Radek Faksa

    Dallas Stars
    Andreas Johnsson
    Semyon Der-Arguchintsev
    Mac Hollowell
    2021 1st round pick (TOR)
    2022 2nd round pick (TOR)*

*conveys to 2022 1st round pick if TOR wins Stanley Cup in 2021 or 2022
