I think it depends what Seattle wants. If they want a forward, they might go for Byron/Evans, if they want to pick someone and flip them right away they’d go for Chiarot, and if they want a defenseman they’d go for Juulsen/Fleury. For the sake of this team, we’ll say they want a defenseman and pick Juulsen.

You're not paying Gally $6M+ to play second fiddle to rookie Caufield. Presuming that Tatar-Danault-Gally line stays intact, Habs will probably trade one of Domi or Drouin for a Top-6 RW... Leaving Caufield to play with a more mature KK, on the low-risk/easier minutes 3rd line...

I'd hold off on extending Tatar, Danault, Gallagher, Armia, Petry until after the expansion draft since (am I mistaken?) they don't need protecting?

The difference between the 1st and 3rd Line is nothing. They all get about the same playing time and I just put them in a random order. All I did was put the players who I think would play well together with each other. And I don’t see why we would trade Domi/Drouin for a RW when we already have Gallagher, Armia, Caufield, and Ylönen. Worst case scenario Domi/Drouin play RW for a bit if we have injuries.

Yes, but I’d assume that if they sign extensions they’d rather do it before the expansion draft. Either way I’d expect Seattle to pick Juulsen in this scenario, though.

Ok if your line are not in a particular order. But it is indeed early to put Caufield on the 1st line. I like caufield a lot. I think he will be as advertised . But I think we will only see him in 2022-2023 because of his size. 20-21 in college, 21-22 AHL , 22-23 NHL. I think this way, we maximize his development.

That’s fair. If neither him or Ylönen are ready for a spot then we’d probably sign a UFA forward to a 1 year contract. And I just put him on the 1st Line because I think he would work well with Suzuki.
