If I'm MTL, I prefer 2OA to 5OA + PLD. Not because I dislike PLD nor do I think Michkov or Smith are busts... I just think Fantilli is super special and is better suited for where the Habs are with their rebuild...

I think PLD to MTL is a done deal
I know one thing: the Montreal Canadiens organization leaves NOTHING to chance. Everything is planned, no lose ends. Even in the summer, any and all player public appearance is managed by the team. So you could imagine that their is purpose behind all those Habs vs Dubois pictures/videos...

IMO, Habs say yes. But I'm not sure Ducks would do this trade. And if I was Ducks GM, Harris is not the guy I ask for because LHD is not an issue for Anaheim...

The case for trading back
This is a super tough one to call!
One on hand, some teams may value the Russian as a top-3 talent in this draft and may want to move up to get him at 5, willing to pay a good price for it. But the return would be only in potential and not young NHL-ready talent. So if you're rebuilding and already have lots of middle-6 and 2nd-3rd pairing young talent, like the Habs, do you go for the high risk, high reward Russian or do you accept that return of 2-3 assets that may be safer, but with a much lower ceiling?
I say swing for the fences and draft the Russian!

Trade deadline categories
Fun way to look at things. Thanks for that post!
We can debate on everything for hours, but one jumps to me more than the others: Karlsson and his heavy contract won't be a TDL move, IMO. Sharks won't retain for 5 years and contending teams are in no position to digest that contract at this time...

2023 Habs trade value
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Campabee</b></div><div>It has been all over the news lately and unless the GM of either team comes out and says the Habs turned down a 1st we can only assume the reports are true since the insiders usually have good information. Now the caveat is that maybe the 1st had conditions Hughes didn't like or was too far in the future to be worth it.</div></div>
We all heard tu rumours. And you make a valid point about the conditions attached to the First pick. In my mind, there's NO WAY Habs turned down a solid, unprotected 2023 1st Round pick for Anderson at 0% retention... That being said, There's no way Habs would say yes to Anderson at 50% retention for a late first.
All in all, I still believe the best deal would be Anderson at 0% retention for a 2nd rounder and a B-prospect. Bonus points if that prospect is a right shot D-man.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>Congratulations. The most realistic analysis of Montreal trade values I've seen, either individually or collectively. Congratulations (again).</div></div>
Thanks! I remember doing it last year and people liked it as well... I'm an old guy who loves hockey and Habs are my favourite team. I try to remain objective... I know people won't agree with my take on guys like Armia and Drouin or whatever...
Fact is, IF Drouin had remained healthy this year, on a contract year and the way he started the season, I think the return could've been way better. He still has upside and could prove to be usefull in a low-pressure, middle-6 situation. Armia, if he was on an expiring deal, could attract some old-school GM who likes the eye test more than analytics. But with that contract, Habs would be lucky to trade him for a 4th, probably with salary coming back...
Anyway, always fun to give my POV and witness the chaos in the feedback... lol

2023 Habs trade value
I would have to see it to believe it. I know that there were rumours... but I doubt Habs turned down a First for Anderson. My guess is that they're looking for 2 pieces to come back. Of course, if the pick is a late first, then the prospect could be a bit less important. So 2nd Round + B prospect or Late First + B- prospect...

Canes target for Power Forward
Hey guys!
Sorry about some of us Habs fans commenting with stupid trade proposals.
If I look at Anderson, the player, I see a guy that seems well liked by his teammates and that can skate, hit and shows some flashes of offense. I think GMs are attracted by that « Power Forward » profile + once high-ceiling. Reality is, he's a good 2nd-3rd line guy on a not-so good contract... but he's not even the worst player/contract Habs have, so I can see some value there... Maybe a 2nd + B prospect?
But if I had to trade roster players away from Montreal, I'd prefer seeing Dadonov, Hoffman, Drouin and maybe Monahan/Dvorak go before Anderson...

ZERO chance Habs include the 2013 Florida pick in a trade. Why would they get rid of that pick when there's a (slim) chance it becomes a lottery pick for Bedard?
Replace the 2023 1st by a 2023 2nd and it still favors Winnipeg, value-wise.

I say it's a good return for Philly. Norlinder has lost a bit of value. If Habs could draft Cutter Gauthier at 5OA, I'd do it, although I kinda feel it's a steep pricetag...

Habs fans give me your thoughts
I'm a Habs fan. I have watched Brook perform at rookie camp/regular camp the last couple of years. He was a good prospect, but I just don't see the progression in his game. Injuries didn't help, I guess.
Now, I don't get the need for the Habs to add a goalie prospect, with the recent performance of Primeau during AHL playoffs.
So I guess value is fine, but I don't see it happening.

3 Trades that Could but Wont
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hii</b></div><div>I also don't get how having a guy on LTIR helps Nashville?</div></div>
Ok, so Weber will make $3M next year and $1M/year for the following 3 years. If he was to retire as a Hab, Nashville would be forced to recapture half of his cap hit for the remaining of the term, right?
So, my point is: if I was the Preds, I'd prefer paying him 3/1/1/1/1 and having him on LTIR, then Paying him $3.75M a year to retire... That's why I'm saying he would be an asset for Nashville...

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>stephane_robidas</b></div><div>Anaheim, Nashville, and Seattle all reject, and it isn't close. I'm a Habs fan - proposals like this make all of us look bad, so quit it.
Comtois has a higher upside than Gallagher, is cheaper, young, and drafted by Anaheim. They could be interested in Gallagher, but nowhere near that price.
Weber is not retiring - he is owed millions. He isn't terminating his monthly payments. He has no value. So, two firsts and Myers for Chiarot and bad contract Armia? Hell no.
SEA could've had Price for free, and passed. why would they, a terrible team, give up a young center, their number 1 goalie AND a first round pick, for him at 9 million and under performing Mike Hoffman?
Put yourself in the shoes of other teams before you propose brutally lopsided deals like this. Cmon</div></div>
So, what you're saying is that I make all Habs fans look bad? Jeez, thanks. But I think their are plenty of morons that can come up with stupid things by themselves...
Anyway, If you read everything that I posted, you understood that those trades could be good ideas, but will never happen. I am NOT saying they are realistic in the present context, nor am I saying they'll 100% happen. What I'm saying is that they would all make sense, from a hockey/business side of things. Price to Seattle makes perfect sense, but will not happen because of Price's health issues. Armia and Chiarot to Nashville with Weber's contract would be a good fit. And Gallagher to Anaheim to give them some grit/leadership would be nice as well.

Actually, he IS an asset IF he doen't officially retire. He is owed a lot let real money than what is contract would be on LTIR. Preds could just have him around doing nothing for the next few years and benefit from that LTIR money. A la Pronger...

Thanks for the feedback!
In any rebuild, you need to keep vets around. Lehky, Wideman, Anderson, Savard, Edmunsson and Allen are the ones I'm keeping. They all have 2 things in common, from what I can see/guess: they outperform their contracts and they seem to enjoy their time here.
I know the jury is still out on Savard, but he doen't hurt the team and... you guessed it, he's French! So yep, I'm keeping him...

I'm sorry, what do you mean by « flushed out »? Actual trades being proposed? I'm a French guy, so I'm a bit lost with that expression... Also, Thanks for the constructive feedback. Whats the ask for Petry
I don't know what Petry's trade value is, because I'm not an NHL Executive. But I can tell you this: for a long time, Petry has been our best d-man, any given night. Good size, mobile, good pass, ok shot... no real issues. Certainly a Top-4 option on any team. This year has been, well, on par with everything else with the Habs! For me, worst part of his game has been his decision making, which tells me that he was really affected by the situation (both Covid and Team).
My guess is that new management would wait until the draft to trade him because his value may be at its lowest now. I would expect end-of-round 1st + B level prospect in return IF they go in that direction.

Rumoured Subban ask in 2016
Ok, so what I think happened is that MB thought his team was better than it actually was at the time. And he made it clear that he wouldn't trade PK for a package that didn't fetch a #1 d-man. UNLESS it was to EDM and he could draft PLD.
Now, what we can learn from that is: trading in the NHL is not an exact science and it often comes down to which team has the best pro scouting department! Can you imagine being the one telling your GM: Yeah, that PK guy will be a Norris candidate every year for the next 10 years... Or... Nah, that Leon Draisaitl guy is a bust...
Anyways, it turns out that PK for Weber is a pretty fair deal after all. The day of the trade, I thought MTL should have received a 2nd rounder to offset the age difference... but it's no deal-breaker!
