haha I literally just posted a similar thing maybe 1 minute after this.... I think the cap will go down 10% unless they can get everyone on board for the playoffs. even with the playoffs it still probably drops 5million.

If we get to CBO two contracts it should definitely be Vlasic and Jones. Burns has way more value than Vlasic and can be traded much easier. But that defense you have their makes me want to keep Burns on board cause that D would be full of holes.

I'd imagine if the cap is going to drop due to this pandemic, players would be asked to have their contracts clawed back by the same amount. Otherwise its going to hurt teams up against the cap who don't have any bad contracts. Its not their fault this happened and it couldn't planned for. San Jose has a tonne of garbage contracts while TO has none but would be hugely affected by a drop in the cap. I doubt the league would be able to drop it without the NHLPA agreeing to clawing back their wages as well. Which I doubt would happen, a flat cap is far more likely.

Maybe you'll get lucky and you can buyout 4 contracts.

Sadly Doug is in love with our lovely defensemen. He would probably end up buying out Meier, Couture, Jones and Hertl so he can sign more defensemen to insane deals that further cripple the team.

Meier's contract is ****ing terrible. Why on earth would Wilson give him a guaranteed 10 million dollar QO in his last year of RFA? Unless he turns into your best player and a 50 goal scorer, its a disaster.

I made the Toronto trade thinking Toronto would use their CBOs on Karlsson and Vlasic

Two players with NMC are going to waive to be bought out?? Toronto is going to pay ~100 mil cash to players that will never play on their team?? All that money and not get a 1st or either of your top 2 prospects??

Timo is very good. He really showed his worth in the playoffs last year by proving to be an extremely effective physical player during one of the more physical playoff series that I can remember in the last ten years. I think it is safe to say Timo will become a perennial 30-35 goal scorer with 70-75 points. I have no problem with his contract whatsoever.

Eriks contract is expensive but I do not think it’s that bad. He is still an elite top 10 defenseman and I still think he’s got another couple runs at a Norris. Without him our team would be completely incapable of entering the zone on the power play.

They still have to pay 100 mil dollars. Maybe for you that's not much money. To the TMLs that's still a lot. Why would they absorb 100 mil dollars so SJ can sign Lehner, Khudobin, DeMelo and Braun??

10 million for a 70 point player? That is not optimal

The cap will also go up by then. There are many teams that would love to have Meier even with this contract. He’s still getting better so it’s hard to say what his actual ceiling is.

I doubt it. If he didn't have that crazy QO probably but he is going to get 10 mill on his next deal and he needs to prove a lot more before that'll make sense.

Points are not the only way to evaluate a player. We’re not in the 90s.

Last season Meier’s net impact at 5 v 5 was only 0.3% less than Sean couturier (top 10 center in the game) and he drives offense at an extremely high level (similar to marner last season). He regressed a bit this season, but he’s only 23. Quality of teammates contributes to point totals so only using points to evaluate a player can be misleading

The impact he had last season was worth around 10 mill. If he can produce like he did last season, he is worth close to 10.

Do you think marner is better than mark stone because he puts up more points?

No, I think Mark Stone us terrific, Meier is not worth 10 million dollars. No 60 point winger is worth 10 million a season.

Meier was on a 70 pt pace last season, not 60.

Stone was on a 77 pt pace last season and his market value for what he contributed was close to 15 mill. If Meier can produce like he did last season he will be worth close to 10 mill in 4 years.

And by 70 you mean 57.4. Your arguments are always the best when it's made up and completely false.

“Meier was on a 70 point pace LAST season , not 60”

Poorly worded, or does your reading comprehension skills need some work?

Currently we are in the 19-20 season , so if I was referring to the 19-20 season, I would say “this season”. Credit to me for clearing that up.
