Robertson aint ready for the NHL he is probably going to Liga for 2020. Also for 2 years to expensive for Mikeyv (1.5-1.85 would be what Dubas would probs pay). And Johnsson will be back in september so Dubas probs moves him at the draft.

the kid had 55g/86pts in 46 games..how is he not ready? lol.

His 68 game pace was 82g/127pts... Pretty good comparable to another 2nd rd pick in DeBrincat who had 65g/127pts his draft+1..and he had 28g/52pts as a rookie then 41g/76pts year 2

Robertson has mentality to make the team and be great mid-6 addition right away. He does not have mentality of 18yo kid, which helps.

Whether or not he will would be determinded at training camp. Nothing is sure.

I'm hopeful for the kid, but he's like 5 days away from being eligible for this 2020 draft. He only turns 19 on Sep. 11. If he was in this draft and taken 10th OV hypothetically, how many 5'9 165lb 10th OV players make the NHL out of the draft?

Your Debrincat example. He was 3 months away from turning 20 in Sept 2017 the year that he made the NHL.

When you are talking about 19 yo that 8/9 months makes a pretty big difference, especially when you are talking about players that are not 100% physically mature.

Additionally, until some moves are made, it's not like it will be easy for him to steal someone's job next season. Nylander is on record now preferring LW, Hyman, AJ (he'll be healthy in Sep), Mikheyev, Engvall even Agostino is a LW option as he was the Marlies best player the last few months of the season. No guarantee Robertson would be more effective then any of these guys next season.

I think he'll make the team but on the 3rd line. Mikheyev played great with Tavares as did Nylander. Let Robertson play against lesser competition as a rookie. Give him 2nd PP time as well.

The age difference is always a bigger deal when they are younger, by 18 it's less of a factor.

Sure for guys that are close to their final playing weight, but it makes a difference for guys that need to pack on 10+ lbs. That can't be done in one summer.

Robertson is always going to be a smaller player, but each summer that he can pack on 5 or more lbs will only help, especially considering his style is more Hyman then Marner.

Weight doesn't matter, its strength and explosiveness. Robertson plays like Gilmour. He doesn't have fear and that will help him. Don't get me wrong he absolutely could not make the team. I think he'll have a chance though. He's just another high end player coming down the pipe.

Robertson disagrees. Pretty doubtful he steps into the NHL at 164 lbs. I would think he gets close to 175 lbs before he's wearing blue & white, which won't be easy for him this off-season. He'll be in the corners a lot more then Gilmour had to be, at 165-168 lbs he'll be bouncing off of guys.

From March 31, 2020
“I’m trying to pack on a little weight,” the five-foot-nine, 164-pound forward said during a Tuesday appearance on Good Show. “Not significant but I need to get a little thicker and stronger and faster. I think that’s always been a cliché but for me I think I have the tools regarding the skill and the passing, the shooting, everything like that but I think I need to get a little bit faster, stronger and bigger to withstand those big defencemen in the corners – not only just to take a hit but to be still elusive but balanced on my feet.”

Kadri thought the same and spent a summer piling on pounds only to realize being bigger didn't mean anything. Being faster doesn't mean heavier, being explosive is everything. Building power. The Leafs training staff is top notch, he'll get heavier but building that explosiveness doesn't mean gaining weight, it means building power. I'm 6'1" and if I had the resources he has, my playing weight wouldn't be 220 pounds like many NHLers it would be 185 because I am a leaner build. Doesn't mean I would get pushed around at all I just don't need the extra weight to be explosive. Robertson very well could make the team. He's a special player.

So if every player is different why do you keep throwing out different examples. Kadri and Robertson don't have the same builds. So it's not that relevant. Kadri already had 10 -15 lbs on Robertson at the time they were drafted.

You even say he'll get heavier. He say's he's working to get heavier. He's obviously not going to Burger King to pack on weight.

Whatever you want to call it building power, explosiveness, heavier core - I'll be quite shocked if he's in the NHL this season, and equally shocked if he's in the NHL below 170 lbs.

My two cents.

You are saying he NEEDS 10-15 pounds before he can play in the NHL. That is nonsense. He will likely gain some weight but your arbitrary goals are just old school you need to be heavier to move mentality that died with th dead puck era. He wants to get the extra quick step to create separation, that doesn't mean he needs to be 10-15 pounds heavier, he may not even gain any weight but just get leaner and stronger and that is the aim. Getting stronger not heavier. Get off the heavier train, it's obsolete. Get more powerful.

So if he's lean, fast, explosive, powerful and weighs 175 when he's playing in the NHL does that make me wrong or right?

I don't care about his weight. I think he could make the team on the 3rd line. Giving Kerfoot two trigger men in Robertson and Kapanen. Or maybe he doesn't make it. Either way I don't care about his weight. That is just old school cement head thinking.

But it's literally what he's talking about in interviews, so....

What he says is not relevant, the Leafs training staff will tell him what to do. And they only talk about building power and explosiveness. Weight is a byproduct of that sometimes but it depends on the players build. Marner is never going to be heavy but Nylander is 200 lbs. They just have different builds weight is irrelevant, power and explosiveness is all the matters. So Robertson saying he wants to get heavier means absolutely nothing. He isn't in charge of his workout regimen, the Leafs training staff is.

And you don't think they've talked to him before March 31, 2020?

Aslo, how can you be so certain he's a Marner and not a Nylander? Nylander packed on 20 lbs, doesn't seem to be hurting his game?

I'm saying weight doesn't matter and is never the focus. It's power and explosiveness. Nylander had the same goals as Marner and Robertson, get faster, get more explosive so you can create separation. In Nylander's case he gained weight but he was always a thicker build. Marner did the same thing but is leaner and lighter. It's just a body type thing. Weight doesn't matter.
