Quoting: PLDGEY
Okay, thats terrific and actionable feedback. I thought them completely off the table considering that those were 2 of the sticking points in the potential Stone trade, I assumed your 1st was more viable.

Sorry, this would be the third year. Not last 3 years, okay, so trade us back for the pick if you wanted it. Reacquiring the pick later isnt a reason that the first trade was a logical failing.
Tierney put up more points, while younger, on a worse team, while getting more defensive zone starts. He is a decided increase on every single one of them. Perreault isnt good, by advanced metrics nor conventional. Useless, overpaid, you can call him whatever you want, it costs to dump cap.
Again, 1st round picks are literally traded all the time. More than 1/4 of the 1st rounds picks in this years draft are owned by other teams. If Capfriendly was to believed, 1st would never be traded.
Im literally not going to argue about this any more. If you dont think they *need* to dump cap, then make that argument, but dont argue the price of a cap dump. To dump 6M costs a 1st. If theyre somewhat NHL capable, you get something coming back. Get over it.
I don’t know why we didn’t give up Vesalainen and a 1st for Stone. Cap restraints at the time likely held us back in that conversation but wish it would’ve been done now. I think that roslovic and Vesalainen aren’t off the table, but they’re definitely not going to be easy to acquire.
As for the talks about trading our last 3 first round picks. The one for stastny was a great move, paid off huge and made sense. The Hayes trade made sense too, but he wasn’t a great fit for the team, so Chevy got it back. Now, I think after two different trades involving our first, he’s learnt a lot about how it can work and how it cannot work. I know tierney is younger, is an RFA and has potential to be a solid 2c. But I think Chevy will be a bit more hesitant on pulling the trigger this time around considering what happened with Hayes.
The other issue I have with the WPG is that they aren’t in need of cap room. Perreault is overpaid, and is a good 4th liner but he’s also one of our values veterans. We need guys like him that can play 4th line, 3rd line and 2nd PP. they have no need to make him a cap dump. Unless the jets want to get crazy and go after a big FA they have no reason to move him.
I do think though that the jets need to make a move for a 2c. I don’t necessarily think Tierney is the guy. I’d rather them target a guy like Cirelli who is on a cap strapped team. Good 2c’s are hard to come by, which is why the prices are high. I don’t think you proposed a bad trade necessarily. I just don’t think it works for WPG. They need that pick to draft a C like zary or hope for a guy like lundell to fall outside of 10.
