Description
Hey guys. Was super bored and decided to whip this team up. I tried to make this as realistic as possible, while having fun building the team at the same time. NOTE: I'm expecting Koivu to retire, which is why he is not on the team. If he were to play, I'd bring him back and send Sturm back down to Iowa.

NYI
  1. Parise, Zach
Détails additionnels:
There is speculation about Parise and Ladd being swapped this offseason, as they were almost swapped at the deadline. The Islanders would be taking on close to 2m more in salary here, but Parise and 2m in salary is way more valuable than Ladd and his dead cap. I added in Bellows and the 3rd here to make it more even, as Parise is the better player here.

MTL
  1. Dumba, Matt
Détails additionnels:
Its no secret that the Wild need a Top 6 Center. Staal is too old, and the rest of the players arent there yet. The Habs have a surplus of quality centers and could very well have Suzuki, Kotkaniemi, Danault, and Poehling as their Cs next season making Domi and his expiring deal expendable. The Wild are also rumored to be asking for a Top 6 Center, Prospect, and a pick for Dumba or Brodin, and I feel Caufield would be a fair addition, due to Dumba's age, production, and contract.

WSH
  1. Dubnyk, Devan
Détails additionnels:
This is pretty much a cap dump for the Wild. Dubs was awful last season, probably due to his wife's situation, but regardless Stalock was the better goalie. On top of that Kahkonen looks ready to play in the NHL full time, making Dubnyk expendable. With Holtby expiring, and almost certainly leaving for FA, Dubs would become a great backup to Samsonov, and could very well become the Caps version of Jaro Halak.

Détails additionnels:

PHI
  1. Pateryn, Greg
Détails additionnels:
Pateryn would simply become a bottom pair or depth defenseman for the Flyers, who are surprisingly weak on right shot defenseman. Kalynuk is a solid NCAA prospect, but it looks like he is going back to Wisconsin for his senior year, meaning he could hit free agency. However, with Suter and Luke Kunin (both former Badgers) the Wild could take a risk with him.
5.
NYR
  1. Choix de 3e ronde en 2021 (MIN)
Détails additionnels:
Alright, this is probably the deal with the lowest possibility of happening, but hear me out. As I was building this team, I realized that I had a ton of cap space (~13m) which is great, because alot of the NHLers have expiring deals and will be getting raises (Fiala, Brodin, Donato). So that led me here. The Rangers have a great situation, as they have Igor, Georgie, and Hank. Hank is obviously the oldest, and most expensive, leading me to believe he would be the most expendable goalie. Hanks got a NMC, but with Zuccarello on the team, I have faith he would be open to waiving it. By getting Lundqvist, the Wild would be able to send Kahkonen back to the AHL for more consistent playing time. On top of this Hunter Jones would almost certainly go back to Peterborough, for the same reason. The only downfall of this would be if Hank really wants to win a cup, because I don't feel like this team will be one of the favorites, and decline to waive his NMC.

Montreal laughs at that offer. They don't need another RH defenseman and their not giving Caufield and Domi for Dumba.

Caufield is one of the best prospects in hockey and I don't even think Montreal would do Dumba for Domi straight up. Brodin for Domi has more traction in my opinion.

MTL says no. Caufield is boom or bust (I lean towards bust), but MTL should hold him until he shows what is he as the pro levels. They also need a LD not a RD.

Pateryn for a 4th is fine, but he's a guy you can get every year as a UFA for free. He's more of an in-season trade candidate.

WSH says no. They really don;t need to add a capdump goalie.

Not sure if Lundqvist would waive his NMC to play in MN.

My personal opinion is that MN would be better off not making that NYI trade.

It would be a 2m increase in the cap, and with some other moves like losing Clutterbuck and Hickey, it could get done. However, if Barzal gets ~10m, I'd agree and say there is no way this happens.

Domi is expiring, and they already have a surplus of centers. It would make total sense if they get swapped 1 for 1.

They would have to give assets to get rid of clutterbuck and hickey. Also isles have to re-sign 2 of their best defenseman, pulock and toews.

Hickey should go to Robidas Island, and Mayfield would be really easy to deal since Wilde and Dobson are young. I'd imagine someone would bite at an offer of Clutterbuck and Mayfield.

I agree with you about the boom or bust part because of his size and specific skillset but why leaning for the bust part. He didnt show any signs of regression after the draft and killed it as a freshman in a very mediocre team. He did poorly at U20 but a lot of other high end prospects his age were bad too like Turcotte for example. Its maybe a little red flag but he wasnt really used properly and its a short tournament. Next year should be a better indicator since he will be a leader in the USA team.

I’m not going to come on here and predict that Caufield is going to score 50 a season but I will question why in the hell you would lean to him being a bust before the kid even plays a game. Caufield has scored more goals for the US than any other player. Had a very respectable freshman season playing on a ****ty team and was arguably better than Turcotte. He’s one of the top prospects out there right now so maybe you should give him a chance to play before thinking he’s a bust.

As for that trade offer that’s just a laughable offer and I agree with the people who say they wouldn’t even do Domi for Dumba one for one.

With what you are proposing the islanders will still be over the cap.

Plus there’s a decent chance there will be a compliance buyout which means Ladd is gone

I watched UW play a lot this year. Caufield is a disaster with lots of things that doesn't involve shooting. He has a top end shot, but the rest of his game has serious flaws. I just don't think he'll get the time and space in the NHL to be more than a PP specialist.

He wasn’t drafted as a two way scoring winger, I’m sure he has downfalls pretty well every play has things to work on. He scores goals because he knows where to be on the ice, that’s what elite goal scorers do. There’s space on the ice no matter what level you play and elite goal scorers don’t need time to score for them it’s the finishing skills and reading the play and knowing where to be. I respect your opinions and am by no means claiming I know all either lol. I’m hopeful to see many years of Caufield continuing his goal scoring ways.

He's also small, like really small. He doesn't have the shiftiness of a Gadreau or a Spurgeon to make up for his lack of size when it comes to the physical/board play. He's not an elite skater or super fast.

It's not just his d-zone game, he's really not good with the puck unless it's to shoot or he has all the space in the world. You don't need to be a great 2-way player in the NHL, but you don't see many shifts that are spent in the o-zone the entire time.
