Columbus says no. The biggest problem is the contract. Columbus has so many players who need new contracts in the next 3 years that the 11 mil is more of an anchor. We’d likely have to loose a good portion of the depth and all of our RHD. Leaving Peeke as the last RHD and he isn’t a top pair guy.
In the Short term this helps both teams, in the Long term Columbus is in worse shape then Toronto is now with 1 solid defenseman in Werenski(Rielly) and a worse forward group with only PLD and Marner vs Marner, Matthews, Tavares, and Nylander.
Everyone only looks at the short term gain vs the long term consequences. At least If Jones walks as a UFA we have a chance to keep Savard.
