Leafs will not trade Gauthier as he is probably one of the top 4th line centres in the entire NHL on reasonable contract.

Bit early to say since he's pending RFA. No one knows what kind of contract he's getting.

Seems to be a theme over all teams in the league. Those big contracts tend to become lethal as the players get older.

Then again, you just won't be getting star assets without paying what is due in today's NHL.

Difference is that Hall is only 28. The contract runs until he's 36, so it's unlikely there's going to be a major decline in his level during that contract...

I am getting more impressed lately by how the Goat is playing as his skating keeps improving and he seems to be using his body more and maybe he has been learning something like Kapanan from Clifford. Gauthier is going to be a very valuable player for the Leafs as they transform into an elite powerhouse team in the NHL under Sheldon Keefe in a shut down and PK role.

i would not be surprised if Hall signs as a UFA somewhere else than Arizona.

Me neither, but like the case with SJ and Karlsson, I just can't see Chayka taking the L with all those prospects and picks just for half a year of Hall. And with being able to offer 8 year deal, I think they're gonna give it a shot.

You are probably right and I was actually surprised that Hall did not resign prior to trade deadline. I guess Coyotes could still try to trade him after playoffs and before he hits UFA if they feel he is not going to sign with them. He could be another Tavares or Stamkos situation and wondering if Hall would rather go to a team that is actually going to start competing for Stanley Cups after playing in Edmonton, NewJersey and now Arizona.

I am a big believer in Sheldon Keefe as a coach as he has a tremendous winning record in every team he has coached and is also has a special talent in helping to develope his players into being better hockey players.

Tbh no one is paying crap for his rights after the playoffs. 3rd rounder at most.

If even ARI is getting there to be fair. Doesn't look that good at the moment.

Also pretty much all contenders have very limited amount of cap space left. Hall's best bet is going to be a middle-level team with potential youth coming. ARI fits the bill decent enough.

It’s not that he’s going to decline- it’s that he’s not worth even 9 at this rate

I'm wondering is he able to change the attitude of their star players? With still being a rookie coach I don't know whether he has what it takes at the top level.

I've seen a couple of games from the Leafs this year, and I don't really see them putting all they have on the ice in every single shift...are they hungry enough to be a real contender? That legendary Canes game was just the tip of the iceberg.

Lmao.

Just for example, Skinner got $9M after one 60 point season. Before that he was averaging 50+ points in Canes 2nd line.

Hall is going for 60+ this year, last year was in 90 points pace before the injury and year before that was the league MVP.

He's easily worth $9M.

I am wondering if a team with tight cap could also sign Hall and then trade away one of their better players on a big contract to change their team.

Well obviously they'd need to have the cap space before acquiring Hall, so that would demand a trade to be made before signing him. Which is very risky.

If you google Sheldon Keefe and review his winning coaching records you will be truly amazed and realize this guy is the real deal. Sheldon Keefe has a real advantage coaching the Leafs in that he is probably coaching atleast 13 players on the Leafs that he also coached on the Marlies and helped developed and graduated them to the Leafs.

Question#1 Could a team sign Hall as a UFA and go over the cap and sit over the cap until other player traded prior to beginning of next season?

I love how BUF fans will complain about how they need a 2C, but anyone someone trades them a 2C aside from Cirelli for dirt cheap, their find something to complain about, I haven't seen it here yet, but I've seen it with Rico, I've seen it with Stepan before, I'm sure it's happened with others.... begers can't be choosers BUF fans
