Johnson's NMC prevents this from happening, I'm certain Buff is done for this season at least.

What's with all the Pionk trades? He's the Jets best dman, they'd be crazy to trade him.

Buff likely isnt coming back. based this off what murat said if he does. Johnson always has the option to move his NMC if he wanted to somewhere where he will play top 6

If you can get a first + back for Pionk you do it. no questions asked

Johnson basically plays in Tampas top 6 as is so doubt he cares that much, he isn't waiving for Winnipeg.

Well if getting a 1st is more important than having a top 4 dman the Jets should really look at tearing it down a bit and starting a rebuild, Scheiffle is on the wrong side of 25 so might as well trade him and Wheeler.

Not really much of a re build. Just kind of a re tool. Jets can easily flip that pick + for a better quality Dman than Pionk at the draft or over the offseason. Pionk likely going to get over paid for being on a stacked power play.
Also Jets aren’t making the playoffs this year so having firsts is definitely more important than a top 4 Dman. Gives the team trading power at the draft.

When it comes to your comment on Scheif and wheeler I would love it if the jets where to find a way to move wheels. He’s already slowing down and his contract is going to look terrible within the next couple years if it doesn’t already.

It doesn’t have to be Johnson. I’m sure Gourde wouldn’t mine waiving to get off of a 4th line. All speculation.

For sure. The guys playing awesome for the jets and is on a sweet deal this year and next and an RFA after that. Bean hasn't been able to stick with the big club

Tough to say how much value Buf would even have at the deadline if any. Im hoping he comes back and plays big minutes for the jets on their way to hoisting their first Stanley Cup, but Im a bit of a dreamer.
If he's healthy by draft day, I think the package for him would be much better, plus the jets wouldn't have to take so much cash back

Pionk is playing better than a lot of people expected but almost all of his production is on the powerplay and he’s not amazing defensively. His play this year has been worthy of a 1st and a prospect. Jets would be stupid to not listen to offers on him. They aren’t making the playoffs so having a couple firsts lined up at the draft leads to a lot of trading power.

You can get a lot more for those picks at the draft than what they would be giving up at the deadline

Game changer to get Tampa one step further in the playoffs. Why would you not want to take a Chance on him

Because his hefty contract goes until 2021 and we have to re-sign Cirelli, Sergachev and Cernak this summer?
Rather keep my young guns than a soon to be 35 y/o with little fuel left in the tank

IMO, you trade a guy who's shown growth and the ability to play in the top 4, all you're gonna do is spend the summer looking to replace him. Might as well keep what you have

This games about winning the Stanley cup. Not getting knocked out in the second or third round. Gotta do something to try and better the chances.

Who’s to say they would just flip him at the draft anyways?

He was gifted top 4 on a depleted Jets D core. On a good team he’s a 4/5 guy at best. They can find better at the draft

The GMs approach is not the one of going "All in" and say **** to my prospects, future. GMs tend now to keep the window open as long as possible, and for that to happen you gotta pay close attention to prospects and picks. Especially Tampa, with the cap crunch they are about to face.
This is what had to say BriseBois on the matter, in an interview with LeBrun:

I asked Lightning GM Julien BriseBois about that longer window theory last month, and he agreed the “all-in” short-term approach was probably not his thing:

“Then you’re putting all your eggs in one basket,” he said. “Even if it’s the best basket of eggs, it doesn’t mean you’re going to win the Cup that year. Then what do you do? You’ve set all your eggs in that one basket. You’re trying to build something that is sustainable so that every year fans believe you’re in it, the players believe you’re in it, you actually are in it"

And, personally, I fully support this thinking. Going all in in a league with so much parity is incredibly dumb

The Idea that this trade would be going “all-in” and saying f*** the future is not quite correct. If Tampa does this deal and the flip buff at the draft (which wouldn’t be too hard) they would have cleared Johnson/Gourde cap space which almost frees them of their cap worries. Yea you’d be giving up a first and Foote but at the end of the day what’s more important??

If anything I see this as a win-win trade. Tampa eventually gets room to resign cerelli and increases their cup odds and gets a serviceable 4C. Winnipeg gets a second line centre a trade piece and a defensive prospect.

Tampa doesn't need Buff.
If One of Gourde/Johnson agrees to waive we'll find a trade partner that gives us an okayish return (so we clear the cap space) and we still have the pick + Foote.

Nothing to gain by Tampa in this move

I disagree. Buff is a unicorn. He’s a game changer. Tampa hasn’t been able to get over the hump. I think he’d be the piece that they might need

Find better at the draft and then wait 2-4 years until he's ready or make a deal at the draft? Either I think he has more value for the jets right now then as a trade chip
