There has to be a premium to trade him to another team in the Atlantic. It should start with a 2020 1st (Which I assume he could fetch) otherwise at least Robertson and a pick (2021 1st or 2020 2nd depending on what's added from both ends to this deal). We already have enough middle 6 wingers at this moment so Johnsson wouldn't be a guy we'd target, especially with that contract attached.

Your explanation is incorrect. Buying out a contract with that long of a term and cap hit on it is going to pack up the cap even more when the Leafs will need flexibility. Think about how nice it would be not to be retaining on Kessel right now.

You can't just put someone on LTIR because they're old or you don't want them. Also, operating in LTIR sucks and makes every move that much more difficult (hence the reason making for a defenceman right now is so difficult). There are real-life rules, you can't just make them up. This is a terrible idea and contract.
