Description
The return depends on the draft. If we draft Byfield 2nd overall or Stutzle 3rd/4th overall, that makes one of Veleno/Rasmussen expendable. If we win Lafreniere, that complicates things a bit more. I'm going to go with the more likely scenario we draft 2nd-4th overall and base my return off that.

Sergachev is stuck behind Hedman and McDonough on the depth chart on a cap-strapped Tampa Bay team that has $8M to sign all their RFA's/UFA's. If Sergachev demands anywhere near the $4M range or up and Tampa doesn't do anything to get more cap space, I think they have no choice but to move him. Obviously it can't be for current players because that negates the whole purpose of trading him, so I'm sending over Veleno who still has all three years of his ELC and likely will need to spend another year in the minors before he's ready to push for a spot. I threw in the 4th in there as just filler, let me know if I should remove it, or bump it up higher. Probably a 3rd is as high as I would go, and if so I would move it another year in advance, to a 2022. Anyways, this fixes Tampa's cap issue and fills a huge hole on that left side. I've been pushing Sergachev/Red Wings trades on here for a while now because I think he would be a perfect fit and an awesome partner for Seider one day in the future. Both big frames, Sergachev's offensive instincts combined with Seider's hard shutdown puckmover style while still being effective on offense is a match made in heaven. I think this deal just works for both teams, even if we have to give up Veleno to make it happen. Let me know your thoughts, if I'm giving too much, too little, whatever.

Why put your name to a 8x 4.5? In 3/4 years odds are your easily getting 4.5 or greater anyway no ?

I would do a three year bridge deal if Sergachev wanted. I would be a little nervous to go any further because after three years of Byfield, Sergachev, and other prospects developing hopefully we will be pushing for a spot.

I'd love Byfield and the logic is OK but I don't look at sergachev as a cornerstone guy. I guess some of it depends on your view of velano. I think he's going to be a fringe 2nd line center and with Byfield and Larkin and rass as a 3rd he's probably expendable. I just don't like trading a first rounder before you get a real good look at him.

I agree, I would like to see him get some playing time, but I guess in this scenario that's just not possible. I like Veleno don't get me wrong, but I don't see him as the clear cut future 2C that everyone seems to think he is. Maybe in this team, but on a deep playoff team, Larkin is probably a 2C. And Veleno isn't going to be better than Larkin to take 1C. I think Ras has as good a chance of taking 2C as Veleno does one day. Like I said, all depends on the draft. But to me, if we draft a center, especially if his name is Quinton Byfield, Veleno becomes expendable.

Also worth mentioning with Sergachev, he is putting up .5 PPG, compared to Hronek's .56. and a +/- 0 (dumb stat but worth mentioning) with about three minutes per night less than Hronek, and again, on the bottom pairing so not a great partner. I guess Hronek plays with bottom pairing guys too pretty much but whatever. Not a perfect comparison obviously, but would you give up Veleno for a left handed, bigger Hronek? I would in a second. I think given the right opprotuntiy, he could really blossom here.

I get the logic and hey could use the offense from the blue line. Now if they can add someone to play with hronek who ccan play defense like maybe joel edmunson in the offseason. then serg on a second pair then and you have seider coming then you start to look better on the back end. I love byfield and I might be happy getting that number 2 pick more than 1
