Description
Part of the reason I make this is curiosity. What kind of value does Atkinson have. On the one side, the undersized winger did have 41 goals last year. He’s never had a 70 point season, is having a down year this season, and is on the wrong side of 30. I think it’s really up for debate as to his value. Teams are scared of long term contracts for forwards over 30, especially if they seem like they might be slowing down. I could see the jackets saying, “hell no, he’s a 40 goal guy,” or saying, “this is a great opportunity to clear a long term contract before his value diminishes further.”

Anderson is just really struggling this year. 1 goal in 26 games. I think only 4 points. He could play on the third or fourth line in Boston, and hopefully a change in scenery will help him.

Backes agrees to trade or is sent to providence. Columbus can eat 50% and move him somewhere or buy him out. Perhaps him agreeing to a trade is a bit far fetched, but this is an ACGM after all.

For those that don’t know him I think of Vaakainanen as similar in value to Brannstrom last year. He’s looked good in his time in the NHL. I know the Bruins are extremely high on him, and refused to put him on the table for Mark Stone last year.

Open to the concept that this isn’t nearly enough, although i really can’t decide if the Atkinson contract is good or not.

In my opinion, I don't believe Boston would want to take on Cam's contract due to its length. Before it is finished, Krug, McAvoy and DeBrusk will all need new contracts. Tukka coming off the books may help depending on what the goaltending idea is for the future.

I’m pretty sure the idea in goal would be to re-sign the first ballot hall of famer. That’s just me though.

Hard to argue with that, meaning there would be less cap space available.

I think Columbus would have to say no to this at the moment. Cam is learning how to play without Panarin and he’s been much better the last few games. Yes, he contract is long and just under 6 mil puts him at the most expensive contract in Columbus right now. Anderson needs a move, but as he’s still an RFA he has time to pick it back up.

On Jan 12 of this year I put up the idea that we need help on the right side and we had too many LHS and I still think we need help on the right side. My idea then was trading Heinen in a one for one for Anderson and my comments were Heinen at the time averages 0.46 points per game and Anderson averages 0.42. I mean if we have to add something small like a pick then do it but I think it's even. Anderson is a top 9 guy who could do great things in Boston on the right side. I got blasted for it saying "Columbus loves Anderson. They won’t do this" and "Anderson has more goals than Heinen has points..." and last "A team like Columbus who’s competing for a cup won’t trade a young player who they value highly and brings a lot to the team." It's just funny what a year makes. I still think Anderson would do a lot better in Boston and help us out.

The reason why I would say no to this trade is I think we are strong as far as LHD. Say we do trade Vaakanainen then Chara steps away and for some reason Krug does not sign with Boston. What would our three be on the left side?
