avs still need Z for the playoffs, and its crazy how his game has changed over the past 5-6 since asked to be in a shut down role, hes been flat out dominate shutting down other teams top players. His long term fix on the team could start to be cemented however it comes down to cost, they cant keep everyone so an offseason trade could happen if he commands a 4m aav

I'd be fine with hall being a rental. It'd essentially mean kappy, Johnsson, and maybe even Mikheyev are gone and replaced with cheaper guys and prospects (leafs literally have like two bottom 6's so that wouldn't be much of an issue) to keep him and a defence, and you might be better off just leaving him as a rental

Even in the offseason that's terrible

the avs have their top 4 in byram, makar, Girard, timmins. need another winger to play with kadri and donskoi/burakovsky/whoever is there. Johnsson has familiarity with kadri. leafs need a big, hard hitting stay at home defenceman that fits in with the team age group. that d man doesn't have to be all that offensive, but a good shot would be nice. that was my logic.

Girard byram zadorov with makar Johnson timmins... zadorovs physical play is something the avs need and isnt easily replaced

The avs absolutely dont need any more forwards, when everyone is healthy there will be 2 nhl forwards as healthy scratchs.

And if this is for next year, they can always bring up their forward prospects

Dont think its terrible, Johnsson is an even swap for Z in terms of value, it all depends on how they want to fill out the rest of the roster.
Not saying I would do it, but offseason it could be an option how they fill out the roster when you have in the mix next season. All depends on what happens with any Hall trade Dman (timmins or not)
