nah hard pass. Avs dont need him as a pure rental and its being reported that all signs are pointing at Hall going to UFA regardless what happens.
Thats way to give up for 3 months of a player they dont need

plus retaining salary doesnt mean avs have to give up more assets, they dont have a cap issue so its pointless

and that Redwings deal is just flat out bad

I understand the trade to get another RHD, but green is long past his prime, you're giving up too much for him. you could get him for the 4th alone

My understanding from Avs fans this season is that they are a flawless team with absolutely no shortcomings whatsoever. Couldn't even find space on their roster for Hall so there's no scenario where they would consider trading for him..

given the return from the Hall trade, it'll have to be a sign-and-trade to get that return

Donskoi and Burakovsky have been playing very well in elevated top 6 roles, they invested assets in trading for one and signing the other to a long term deal. So to reward them responding in the elvated role, the reason Sakic targeted them is to burn too many assetse on Hall, who wont resign and wants to go to UFA, to push down their own guys

Yeah man we are really chomping on the bit to just make a mess of a good thing right now bc people on this site think Taylor Hall is the next coming of Jesus as a rental

hes a nice to have not something they desperately need and they dont have to do anything

Avs really cant afford an extneded hall at 11m, it makes a mess of their cap situation 2 years down the line forcing them to have to purge out good young talent that they cant afford, and if they dont have guys like Timmins or Bowers on their ELC to fill roster spots bc of rising cap, then they are filling it with scrubos on league min

Look at Toronto when they brought in Tavares, lesson learned on this one. It would be wise not to burn prime assets and cap space on hall this year. Avs stil dont really know what htey have in the roster the built this year bc of all the injuries. Its a little reckless to do this move right as their cup window is opening

they can be patient this year and go for tarets that better fit their playoff needs, 1 dimensional scoring wingers for a team that is already one of the top offenses in the league really isnt a need for them

I don't think either would mind moving down a line if it means Hall is joining them for a cup run. I would have to imagine their ego isn't that fragile.

Also the assets being sent to acquire him aren't that substantial considering you're acquiring one of the best wingers in hockey. Colorado has a plethora of young talent and it wouldn't be the worst idea to part with some of it to give them the best possible shot this year.

Sorry what's the lesson with Tavares? Guy scored 47 goals last season. He is at worst their 2nd best player

That you had to give up a 1st round draft pick to get rid of marleau and had to trade away decent assets and take on ceci bc it was impossible to keep your own.

You saw Tavares and rage responsed, actually read the post about how it makes a mess of a cap situation and have to move out good young talent bc of it and having to fill the roster with league min or scrubs. Look at how you had to love kadri l, that’s a prime example

It’s not about ego it’s what they were told they were getting when they were brought in here for. Sakic is no liar of anything he’s too much of a players GM, wish he would be more cut throat business oriented gm but that’s just him, he brought them in on the promise of top 6 roles and they are meeting that challenge

Hall just isn’t the best possible shot to take, that’s what Avs fans point. He’s a good player but it’s not like he’s going to make one of the leagues top offenses become what? Still one of that top offenses

Avs don’t need more scoring and that’s what you bring hall in for. They can add. And they should look at loading up but it’s not a talyor hall they need. Guys who can PK and 2 way defensive with scoring punch is much higher on their need list

What young talent did the Leafs give up? 4th liner Connor Brown? They moved on from Kadri cause he repeatedly got suspended at the worst possible time. If Kadri showed some self control last spring he'd still be a leaf.

Cap management is important but adding one of the best players in the world (Tavares) is always a good move. Not every team can count on their top player getting only half of what they deserve (Mackinnon)

There is more value in adding Tavares the player who is a C vs Hall a wing but you are missing the whole point. And flossing over how you had to fill out the rest of your roster bc of cap management. 11m in a ufa made that difficult, and look at the leafs now with their back up role, they couldn’t afford to spend money on a decent back up and they are suffering from it

You are seeing the impacts of what his 11m does to the cap to fill out the rest of the team and it only gets worse as other important pending ufa are up and more hard cuts will be made

That’s the point, so looking back what does 11m UFA get you? 2 good years before you have to scramble to fill out the roster?

Well so far it's 56 goals in 102 games...

Tavares was a good add and the Leafs still have the assets to address those kinds of issues should they choose to do so. If having Tavares' 11M cap hit means you lose Johnsson or Kapanen well that's a shame but you're still much further ahead having Tavares on the team than not. You can't always play it safe

You can’t play it safe either I agree and they need to be aggressive and go for it soon I just really don’t think hall is the guy they need to go all in on, the fit really isn’t right. Just bc you can do it now does it really mean it’s worth it bc he’s available?

Make a splash and figure out later if you win always seems worth it but I just really don’t see the draw in hall. I would hope Sakic and the avs save that all In bullet In the gun on someone else

Well when marners healthy they have to go down to a 20 man roster, they cant bring up sandin because they need someone who makes 700k, and they cant get a decent backup goalie because they can only spend 700k..

would you spend your 2021 1st and sandin to add hall? No because you already have all the forwards you need to score, you'd rather have the defenseman on his elc

If the Leafs had a young D core of Girard, Makar and Byram they would absolutely consider trading Timmins (who is not as highly regarded as Sandin, Liljegren is probably a closer comparable) for a player as elite as Taylor Hall for a cup run. The Avs have a great collection of prospects and have a terrific team this season. It's not that unheard of that they would move futures for present success. I'm aware Colorado has had great offense so far this season, Hall would still improve it.
