Wishful thinking. Lou is not that dumb. Remind me what this guy did last year to receive that package. Last year was a down year...they won't trade him because they won't get anything near that at this point. They'll probably sign him to a bridge deal and hope he returns to form.

This is actually the exact kind of trade Lou should make for Laine. It gets you an elite goal scorer and doesn't hurt the Isles at all. Mayfield jumps right into the Jets blueline, with Wilde likely jumping in next season (so it's not a futures trade where guys are going to take years to reach the NHL) and Wahlstrom could potentially jump into the lineup this year (but definitely next).

For the Isles, Mayfield gets replaced by Dobson this year, Laine (who is better) replaces Wahlstrom and provides offense in the Top 6. Wilde is the only real loss for the Isles, but with Boychuk signed for the next few years in the Bottom pairing Wilde is kinda blocked.

The first can be replaced by trading Leddy to open a spot for Aho and give the Isles some CAP space and Hickey becomes your 7th D. The only real question here is, would WPG accept a package like this...
