Jesus we aren't better after this trade. Kase would be 3rd liner at best in our team. We could have a better return for Petry.

Habs decline big time

I know it makes 0 sense rn, but in 1-2 years it would be much better. In a void this is a steal for the habs, but makes them considerably worse right now (positionally).

you obviously dont watch MTL games so i'll point out that the difference between 1st and 3rd line in Claude Juliens System is 60 seconds
players that are on 1st 2nd and 3rd playing special teams have about 60 seconds between each lines best special teams skater
same thing is shown between each of the 3 lines least active skaters
Kotkanemi is the only Deviation is Kotkanemi who is 2 minutes from his 2nd line counterpart
the reason for this is come March Kotkanemi after playing nearly 21 months straight so he was out of gas
and leaving himself vulnerable to injury so Claude cut his minutes resulting in a dip in his overall time on ice at year end

IF you want more ice time you earn it as Claude Preaches Constantly
Kase fill the role Shaw played here , not the same style but a 24 year old 20 goal scorer is nothing to turn your nose up at
in MTL he'll get an extra 60-90 seconds time on ice here

Petry is a stud defenseman who puts up 40+ points every year. Kase is a 7th round pick who never put up more than 38 pts. What are you smoking. Our defense would be even worst after that trade for a RW who put up 20 goals once when we have Gallagher, Caufield, Ylönen, etc who can play RW. Don’t quit your day job.

We need Petry way more than we need Kase. Now, and next year too. I highly prefer to move him next year at TDL for maybe a 1st. We have more depth than we think at RW. Gallagher, Byron, Lehkonen, Armia, Suzuki, and Caufield and Ylonen coming. Kase is a good player, is not an elite player at all. He has slightly better stats than Lehkonen.

The logic on not trading Petry is sound. I do disagree on the statement that Kase isn’t elite, however.

Saying a 20 goal scorer is only worth a 7th round pick when Morrow , Jerebek , and Montoya all got a 4th or 5th despite being 7th D or extremely weak back up goalie struggling .Your premise is a 3rd year prospect who's scored 20 goals is only worth a 7th Pick is illogical

Petry when we got him wasnt worth a fraction of what he is now
Kase will gain value over time just the same because outside Gallaghers spot our top 9 is Wide Open with no other true
top line players who can go head to head with the leagues best and handle themselves .

i'm not saying this trade is amazing
i'm pointing out people burying Kase are not considering his value here
he's not worth a Petry but he has value despite some people claiming otherwise

Petry value is 1st and a B+ prospect or a 2nd and a A+ Prospect

Kase value is Lehkonen and a 5th or Hudon and a 2nd or 3rd

ANA would give up Kase just because they're in rebuild mode otherwise giving up Kase is like asking for Mete there's just more value in keeping him then Trading him

Kase has potential to be a regular 20 goal guy in our system that caters to his style of speed and skill.
