I think they basically already have. I'm glad Dubas has been fair but not buckled in these negotiations. Hopefully, he does not prove me wrong.

Personally I see a 3 year term coming in the 8-9m range. 10m x 6 I think is more than fair.

Sammy, the Leafs arent't going to telling Marner, FU, but they have "told" him, "Don't like our offer, you're welcome to sign to with another team." The Leafs "won't sit Marner". Again it's Marner's choice to choose a contract from many teams, in many leagues. If Marner doesn't play in the NHL or pro hockey this season, it's his choice, not the Leafs.

Man I live in Toronto and we have some passionate fans. However they are a fickle bunch. They love guys like Brad Smith, Hyman etc and turn on Real talent such as Marner. Im not related to the kid dont even know him. However IM on his side more than ever that he deserves Mathews and Tavares money.
Last three years stats for all three ;
Marner Matthews Tavares
gp g a pts +/- gp g a pts +/- gp g a pts +/-
82 26 68 94 +22 68 37 36 73 -9 82 47 41 86 +19
82 22 47 69 -1 62 34 29 63 +25 82 37 47 84 -12
77 19 46 61 even 82 40 29 69 +2 77 28 38 66 +4

I dont see a big difference between any of them. Marner kills penalties, Matthews doesn't all play pp time. Marner has been the teams leading scorer for last two seasons. I hope they win in my lifetime but we have to stop being so fickle. Talent wins cups effort wins games.

We get into this endless argument about Matthews contract. Sure the Leafs overpaid for Matthews (and Nylander) but that doesn't mean they have to continue to overpay their RFAs.
Just like a team that has managed to get "team friendly" deals from a couple of players, doesn't mean that other players for that team has to tow that line and forever the team gets team friendly deals.
Leafs competition for Marner is other NHL teams and what they are offering Marner in a an offer sheet...not Matthews.
Aho and Marner have had identical stats in the past two years and may be value for their team. Aho signed for 8.45m X 5. Now I think the Leafs offer more, but 8.45m is long way from 11.6m. I just don't see Marner getting 11m maybe not even 10.5m X 5. Again what is Marner's leverage except to without his services from the Leafs (and every other NHL team?). Not signing an NHL contract doesn't get him 11m or 8, or even 3m

IMO 6 works better for both sides as Marner can see what Mathews and Nylander get on their new contracts, and JT's money comes off the books at the same time.
