You can’t compare today’s contracts to Crosby’s contract for a couple of reasons. Both of which I don’t feel like explaining, but to sum up: Max terms are different today and Crosby was a UFA which bought into his 35+ years.

Gee, the cap doesn't seem to be going up very much. Last year just a 3% increase. And recently with recession talk, the Canadian dollars has gone down. Unless the NHL pull a rabbit outta of a hat (get a USA TV contract), the cap is gonna be a slow rise.
