The 83-84 Oilers had the greatest offensive team ever put together.

Just for the sake of getting Hall off of New Jersey, this is fine.

Over the last three years, Hall has thirty more points than Oshie. Forty over the last six. When he's healthy he's a lot better, and he's more likely to keep improving, if he can stay healthy. But keeping Oshie and adding a $4M offensive player who adds forty points a year to the lineup would probably do more for the team, overall.

If GMBM wants to make the most of the final years of the Ovechkin/Backstrom era, this is the best case scenario and should be his Plan A. Also love that you resigned Gudas, that'd be a great move if D prospects don't live up to expectations this year.

I like the idea of having a team thats a pain in the ass to play against, and Gudas fits that (although I might have gone a little cheap on the re-sign for him). Also there are no RHD in the prospect pipeline ready to see NHL minutes anytime soon. Ideally, I’d like to see us be able to move Orlov and Kempny’s contracts off the books as (hopefully) Alexeyev and Fehervary become NHL-ready on a nightly basis — I think both have the potential to be top 4 NHL d-men. I’m not certain Djoos and Sieg have top-4 ceilings and may be best suited on the bottom pairing.

Oshie has a lot of miles on him and I’d be more worried about him missing more time going forward given his style of play. Hall, when healthy, is literally an MVP-caliber talent. I say go all-in for the last few years of Ovi’s prime (if he ever slows down).

Absolutely, they should load up and try to win one!

I think swapping Oshie for Hall could either add twenty goals to the second line if Hall stays healthy, or slightly increase the chance of taking twenty away, if not. If Oshie's injured, it's 6M in wasted cap space. If Hall is injured, it's 12 to 14.

Here's a way to to spend 12M in cap space and add more points than a healthy Hall: https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/263650&post_id=1044828

If Ovechkin ever retires, having Hall around can keep the Caps in the playoffs, when he's healthy, maybe?

But I agree with you the Caps should go for it and load up on offense for next year. Hall's best two seasons, he got 80 and 93 points. Last year, in disappointing seasons, Brayden Schenn got 53 (down from a high of 70), and Wayne Simmonds got only 30 points (half his high of 60). If they play with Backstrom, they should do better than that, and I think you could sign both for a combined 10M or less, leaving room to add Eakins or Brassard at 4C, for an extra 20-30 points, and a slight improvement over Stephenson on the PK? So, if the Caps really believe Ovechkin retires in summer '21, maybe it's better to spread the wealth around?

I mean, this is all academic, because if an MVP wants to join the team, obviously they'll welcome him, and probably avoid rebuilding, post-Ovechkin that way. You're right. If he can stay healthy...
