Disagreed.

Last year went pretty well for us.

And our defense is better than it was.

I agree, that’s what I’m hoping we trade for! This is just the lineup I think we end up with till we can make a trade for a top 4 D-man.

Yeah that what i was trying to explain. You need a strong defence to win the cup, and with three solid defence they not for away from a contending team but the 4-5-6 man are not that great sekera is old and hasn’t play much over the last few year. With petry they eould get a good skater that could play big minute in playoffs. Giving up a first and a prospect is worth a stanley cup

I think a lot of it will depend on how good the team is playing, who we can afford to trade, and who is available.

Did you happen to look at the left side of who would be paired with those RHD you mentioned? Lindell won't be paired with Kling. Kling(RHD) is your #1, line 1 offensive guy. Lindell(LHD) is your #2

Heisk-Kling
Lindell-Johns
Sekera-Polak.

You don't need good offensive guys on your 3rd pair. If possible pair 2 good shut down guys on your 3rd pair. Leave the first two D pairs the offensive responsibilities. 3rd pair usually plays 15-17 mins a game anyway.

Petry isn’t a 3 rd pair guy what are you talking about. He was playing around 22 min a game. He played big minutes, he would be a major upgrade on johns and polak. Johns or polak can’t be 4th defenceman on a stanley cup team those guys add too play like you said 15-17 minutes maximum and in playoff when overtime come you can afford relied on 3 guys plus if klingberg get hurt petry can step up. Look at the 4 team that battle the conference final boston : mccavoy chara krug carlo carolina: slavin, pesce, faulk, hamilton
St louis : dunn, pietrangelo, parayko, Edmundson
San jose: karlson, burns, vlasic, dillon/braun
The year before i could do the same exercise you must have a top 4 on defence to reach the top

I didn't once mention Petry. I was not talking about him. I was talking about what they already have. If that's the case all you need is one solid top 4 dman.. A shut down guy. Dallas are contenders now imo so it's time to start trading 1sts and prospects to get the final pieces.

I think you pair Lindell and Kling as 1&2, then trade for a top 4 defensive/physical Dman and pair him with Heiskanen. Miro can play on either side so we aren’t stuck looking for a RD only. Put Sekera and johns as the 3rd pair with polak able to fill in as the #7.

Man, you are severely underrating Stephen Johns. Before he went down with his injury, he was a solid shutdown blue liner for Dallas. He's a strong, physical presence with a cannon of a shot from the blue line. He routinely saw roughly 18 minutes a night, and was primed to see an uptick in minutes until his concussion. He's been on the ice working out this offseason, and has been cleared by his doctors. I'm not saying he's Petry, but saying that the Stars CAN'T win a Cup with him in the top-4 is very short-sighted, especially when you made the claim that guys like Justin Braun and Brendan Dillon are a key reason that San Jose was in the Conference Finals. Before his injury, Johns played an identical role with nearly identical minutes.

And even if he does play a 3rd pair role, the Stars have Gavin Bayreuther is NHL ready, and is ready for a 2nd pair role in Dallas. With Heiskanen's history playing on the right side (where he spent most of his career in Finland), it gives Dallas a lot of flexibility with their defensemen.

I know as a Canadiens fan, you'd love for Montreal to pick up another 1st round pick, but the Stars aren't going to move their 1st (especially in a deep draft) unless it fills an absolute NEED for the Stars. Their defense is better this year, so if they move the pick it'll likely be for some offensive firepower up front, depending on how their top-6 is looking.

As a habs fan i don’t want my team to be seller at the deadline, and i would rather keep petry than shea weber but for some Contract issues
It will be tough.

I haven’t said that stephen johns wasn’t a good defender, i said with him in the top four you won’t win the cup. Check the top four defenceman on every team that win the cup the last 10 year. Dallas add issues with scoring goal and a lot of that start with a good transition game. With the signing of pavelski and perry and benn and radulov getting older you got to maximize your run at the cup. Only klingberg and heiskanen add a positive impact on corsi. With the nhl getting more
And more faster you need good puck moving defenceman and petry or whatever the defenceman you need to put in you’ll need too improve that if you want a legit chance. Stephen johns as 5-6 defenceman there no problem there could kill penalties but if he is your number four guys your In trouble.

2019 (STL) - Jay Bouwmeester played top-4 minutes. Finished the year with a negative corsi (-101)
2018 (WSH) - John Carlson (-53), Dmitry Orlov (-30), Brooks Orpik(-273), and Matt Niskanen (-66) all had a negative corsi with the Cup Champion Washington Capitals
2017 (PIT) - Ian Cole played almost 20 minutes a night (mostly in the top-4), and ended with a negative corsi (-34)

That's just the last 3 seasons. But the argument that the Stars can't win a Cup if Johns posts a negative Corsi statistically just doesn't hold water.

Fun fact: Stephen Johns' Corsi since 2015 is a +46. That's good for 2nd among all current Stars defensemen (that have played 100 games) since 2015

I dont now where you took your stat but he is at 46,9 % on corsi and you want at least to be at 50%! I not sure why you say -53 since the corsi is the % of chance against and chance for. And john carlson was 57,3% in playoff
Not sure if you know about
Corsi !

Fine if you think that you will win the cup with that defence its fine for me but don’t come crying when you miss the playoff! If ben bishop doesnt have another vezina season your hope will die in april ??

I’m not sure why your so delusional! The dallas stars does not have a very good defence! They play well last year but its more a ben bishop
And khudobin main reason 934% and 923% is well above the league average! You wouldn’t have miss the playoff without their performances. Well see in april who was right since then have a great season ?
