Over the past three seasons, added up, Provorov is 17th among defensemen in even strength points, and Ghost is 38th, so yeah, that's a strength, but Niskanen is 26th, and Gudas is 65th.

Niskanen was the 14th best NHL defenseman at XGF% relative to teammates, last season, minimum 100 minutes played. Gudas was in the top 100, I think? Or pretty close?

If anything, this joke was true last year, but got fixed, big time. Almost big enough to get the Flyers back to the playoffs, if some of the other improved teams struggle.

Niskanen is on the decline

Then he must have been pretty great to begin with. I think he was a square peg in a round hole in Washington. He developed himself into a decent power play specialist and offensive puck mover. They deployed him as a PK/shutdown specialist. Trading him for someone whose salary and skill set fits the available role was the right move for the Caps, but I think you're going to be pleasantly surprised.

He's probably like a #4 at this point is his career.
