This is the starting night roster if there are no trades, except it won't be Claesson as the 7th obviously. But they should still trade Name/Strome for cap flexibility, cushion, and so a good player doesn't sit at 13th.

Why is ADA taking 925k?

Since Smith wasn’t bought out, the cap savings for burying is only a little over 1M...I would keep Smith up as 7D and 13F- until another move is made to move a forward...would not carry Lemieux as 13F. With Smith as Temporary “duel role” you save a contract...and who knows- probably wishful thinking- maybe he can generate a little value for himself at 1/2 retained.

Because he doesn't have arbitration rights, so he and Lemieux can take their qualifying offers or go kick rocks. It will be a 1 year deal so next summer he will: sign a long term deal for god knows what; sign a 1 year bridge for maybe $3.75M or something if he had a good season; or get traded.

I'd prefer a 2 year bridge and push that decision to out a year (and let Lundkvist be ready), but that would cost like $2.2-2.5M that we cannot afford.

Or ADA signs an offer sheet the day the season starts.
