yeah except McAvoy probably notices 7 vs 8M and maybe that's the difference between 6 and 8 years on his deal?
McAvoy wants a short term deal. His agent isn't dumb and here is why I say that (aside from the fact that rumors are he wants a short term deal)....
-McAvoy has two years of stats and can't sign an offer sheet.
-He's missed 30% of the possible games he could have played.
-The Bruins are a few years away from some key pieces coming off the books (big contracts)
-The NHL has a new TV deal that's coming in '21-'22 (IIRC) and rumor is the cap will take a HUGE jump
Look at how much these contracts jump year over year. There are d-men now making over $10 million a year. In 3-4 years where do you think that number goes? Trouba just signed for $8 million a year and I'd argue right now that McAvoy is as good than Trouba.
So as Charlies agent do you want him signing a 8x$8 or say a 4x$6 and then once the TV deals kicks in and some contracts come off the books he could sign a 8x$10+ (assuming he continues to develop upwards) contract. McAvoy wants to bet on himself and I'm perfectly fine with that. Give him a bridge deal and call it a day. That million isn't going to make or break things, and like I said (assuming he's not traded) I think Backes is heading to the LTIR.
