Description
My thoughts on what the Hawks will try to do to fill the rest of the roster.
I was torn between Tanguay/Chimera/Richards here. I think Richards is a good choice because the Hawks like him and know he fits the system. The 3rd line is shaky and will probably have a rotation of players.
The lines aren't a set thing obviously. Richards could play 3C and Schmaltz moves up to 1LW or 2LW.

Everyone stop talking about how bad Kruger's deal is. Yes the cap hit seems ridiculous for him but lets not forget that Kruger took a VERY HIGH RISK 1 year deal worth only $1.5 million to help the Hawks and help them win a 3rd cup. His deal really is $10.75 over 4 years. Which comes out to $2.6875 AAV. Is that really that unreasonable for what Kruger brings to the Hawks? And the fact that he took a high risk deal for one year? I think its a completely reasonable deal and the Hawks rewarded someone who did them right.

Yes to your question. Brian Boyle was signed for $2M as a UFA. He brings soooo much more to the table than Kruger ever could. For the Hawks Freddie is overpaid by a million but because his GM is Bowman, he is paid his current amount.

Eh, Boyle had 10 more even strength points than Kruger this past year in almost twice as many games and with more offensive zone starts against lowest quality of competition. Kruger's job isn't to score, which is why he starts in the defensive zone 60% of the time against the highest QOC - no one in the league that the same shutdown deployment with the same possession increase as Kruger. His transition numbers (successful zone exits and entries) have been 2nd only to Kane over the last 3 seasons and his passing stats are top 3-5 in any given year for the team. The closest comparison to Kruger is Boyd Gordon, who was also making $3m, though even he didn't have quite the same DZ deployment. Considering that Kruger would have been arbitration eligible this year and that advanced stats are now allowed in arbitration, Kruger would have likely been awarded a similar contract anyway.

I like Boyle and he'd totally be fine for a 4C for that extra $1m in space, but it's not exactly accurate to say that Kruger is overpaid.

Kruger has better CF%, CF% rel, FF% and FF% rel while having 29.7 oZS% and 70.3 dZS% while Boyle had worse CF and FF stats with 36 oZS% and 64 dZS%
Kruger has a .268 PPG while Boyle has a .262 PPG. Kruger has a .329 adjusted PPG while Boyle has a .295 adjusted PPG
    Kruger has a 50.7 FO% while Boyle has 49.9%.
Kruger is a +6 over his career. Boyle is a -23 over his career.
    Kruger has 2 Stanley Cups
And once again Kruger took a very very risky 1 year deal being underpaid to help the Hawks.
Kruger is in his prime as a 26 year old. Boyle is 32 nearing the downfall of his career.

So graderman please explain to me how Kruger is not worth $687,500 more than Brian Boyle.

Don't forget Kruger's international career as well... He has medals from the World Juniors, World Championships, Olympics, and he also made the World Cup team.
