Thats a great typical homer comment not realizing how good dermott is. This trade is bad for the leafs, this guy is on glue wanting to do ut

I don't think you realize how good Deangelo and Buchnevich are

Wrong. Not a GM in the league that would take those two over Hyman and Dermott

Lets break this down:

DeAngelo vs Dermott:

DeAngelo is a half a point per game D man playing 19+ mins per game being relied upon more since he doesnt have as good teammates around him. He is also deployed in a defensive role with a 54.9% Defensive zone start % at even strength. He does get some PP time also.

Dermott scores at about half the rate that DeAngelo scores at while playing sheltered minutes (over 57% offensive zone starts at even strength) behind Rielly and Muzzin on a better Toronto team. He plays about 17 mins per game. He is about 1 year younger so thats about the only thing going for him in this comparison, along with limited PK time.

IDK how you justify Dermott over DeAngelo. DeAngelo is clearly the better player right now.

Buchnevich vs Hyman:

Buchnevich scores at about a 0.6P/GP rate while playing on a bad NYR team with not much help offensively besides Zibanejad. He has a 51% d zone start % at even strength and gets some PP time. He is also 3 years younger than Hyman.

Hyman also scores at about a 0.60P/GP rate while playing with a stacked TOR offence where he gets fed by the likes of Matthews, Nylander, Tavares, or Marner. He has a 51% offensive zone start % and gets some PK time. These stats scream Conor Sheary to me - He benefits from playing with elite linemates and would regress significantly without them.

I would take Buchnevich over Hyman 100 times out of 100.

As for the SIgnings:

Im not even going to talk about the Marner deal cause theres too many posts about that and im getting sick of it

You are severely underpaying DeAngelo. What 0.5P/GP D man is going to take a 3 year deal for only 2.5M AAV? it would be closer to 4.5M AAV.

Brassard, even after his regression this season, would probably still make double what you signed him for.

Hutton could also easily make 1.5-2M or more on the open market

Lol "Marner will easily get 10.5" based on what? The media? Sheep fans all day long

Literally based off talk. If you actually listened to analysts and insiders you would know he is probably getting 10-10.5 area and he won’t settle for less. Next time actually follow hockey

- No to the Vancouver trade, Rasanen isn't great, but he was always expected to be a long-term project, we shouldn't give up on him yet.
- Edmonton deal is meh, I consider it simply to clear up contract/roster spots at the AHL, but I doubt anyteam is looking to aquire a bunch of meh players/prospects for a 3rd.
- HELL no to the Detroit trade. Ceci was bad in Ottawa, but we should be excited to see what he can do in Toronto when he's paired with an NHLer for a change. Not to mention you're ditching SDA in that deal for nothing.
- And then what the heck is that NYR trade. You don't actually have cap savings cause DeAngelo is likely to take up that extra cap.Not to mention Dermott > DeAngelo anyways. Buch/Hyman is a bit of a wash, but I guess I'd take Buch for his age, but we don't know if he'd mesh with our team, and that doesn't account for the additional movement of prospects, most notably Korshkov.

Why not?

Demott is arguably better than Deangelo right now (and younger) + Hyman is better than Buch right now + $3,000,000 in cap savings + 3 prospects (a late 1st + 3rd + 3rd).

Otherwise ... New York will either lose players for a minimal return ... or dump bad contracts (and pay the price with sweeteners).

The fact that you think Hyman is better then Buch and Dermott is better then DeAngelo is laughable...

Um. Buchnevich and Deangelo way better than the package you are giving up. Also. All of these trades are bad. Neuvirth I can live with, Brassard and Hutton need more, don’t sign Lovejoy you are just holding out on youth. Marner will easily get 10.5 million.
Also, don’t get snappy at us just because we are pointing out how blatant it is that this is terrible

OMG an RFA wants a big contract ... he must be getting it ... LMAO.

Everyone knew Nylander wanted $8,500,000 ... he got $6,950,000.

He's not going to be the highest paid winger in the NHL ....

Actually Nylander got 7.5, but because of when he signed his contract, they took the high cap hit last year so it is 6.95 each year thereafter.

https://www.capfriendly.com/players/william-nylander

But make no mistake, he got 7.5. Dubas was the one who caved at the last minute. So if we go by the $1m less than player wish, we probably get to 10 on a 3 or 4 year deal.

Haha
Deangelo 61gp 30p +6 > Dermott 64gp 17p -5
Buch 64gp 38p -10 <(barely) Hyman 71gp 41p +16

It must be hard being a leafs fan and think everyone on you team is worth 4 first. And no gm except maybe chiarelli, would take Dermott over deangelo
