Trade could happen if it was Nylander instead of Marner. No chance the Leafs will trade Marner as he is a franchise player.

Carolina passes without much thought. A #1 winger and a #1 defenseman for Marner.

Marner is a generational player. He has lead the Leafs in points in each of the last 2 seasons. He actually would have lead the Leafs in points in his rookie year if he was fully healthy. He is going to be a Leaf for years to come.

Neither team likes this deal

Matthews would have lead the Leafs in scoring all three years except maybe last year if fully healthy. Marner had a breakout season next to one of the best centres in the world. Marner scored 25 more points than in 2017-18 while Tavares only scored 4 more. To me it seems like Tavares was a big reason Marner had such high point totals this year. I would pump the brakes on calling him a franchise player.

Anyone who plays with Marner puts up career stats including Taveres. I agree with you that Taveres helped Marner but his 25 more points is also due to him putting in the work in the summer and developing his game as he gains experience and strength and emerges as an elite player in the NHL. Marner is a big reason why Taveres agreed to sign in TO.

I agree with this partially, but it still does not make Marner "generational" or "franchise". He is still only the 3rd best forward on the team.

Statistically, JT drove that line. Marner and JT, where a great compliment to each other. Marner is an elite player, but definitely nor a "generational talent" or a "franchise player"
