I doubt Ottawa is willing to take on Salary and give up none, but either buying Shattenkirk out or trading him (or Marc Staal or Brendan Smith) are how NYR gets under the cap without it costing Kreider.

Duly noted, i forgot that the 3rd was conditional. I will downgrade the pick to a 2021 3rd (since I felt the trade was already more than fair, and assume that Fox plays in 30 games).

It's a common theme...trade unwanted cap to teams with cap. But not really practical for players with NMC or restrictive NTC. These veterans had earned the right to only be traded to contenders....who have no cap, not to bottom dwellers like Ottawa.
