Oh, there's irony in it for sure. But it's more leafs have spares at league minimum, and we need the cap space for goalie and a top 6 physical C/LW more.

Liljegren has 74 career games played with 24 points, 1.5M is the max he gets for 3 years or less unless a team offersheets. Sandin i have 1 year, which means Toronto can apply pressure to take his QO same way they did with dermott, which is exactly 874,125. Sandin has 88 games played and 28 points. Neither of these players have much time above bottom pair usage, so they really dont have any leverage, especially without arbitration. Only way either gets much more is a long-term deal, or an offersheet which again, what team is giving these guys 4M or something. It's 2M at most which is worth a 3rd and leafs match. Also, if teams didn't offersheet Erik Cernak who had 28 points in 125 games played, a stanley cup ring as the 2nd pair shutdown RD, and he got 2.95Mx3 when Tampa had no cap space and 4.2M offersheet is only a 2nd, nobody is offersheeting. Offersheets literally only happen when someone goes insnae (Bergevin, who offersheeted Aho with a lowball offer too that was easily matched), andrevenge for offersheets (Kotkaniemi getting a vey expensive revenge offersheet for doing one to Aho). That's it.

As said in the description. they were just cap move trades. a 6'4" RD who is good on the PK and a middle six C/LW/RW who plays PP and PK have value. How much, I dont know. From what's being said, Devils want an upgrade on goaltending ( a lot of reports have campbell linked to the devils) so i figured why not trade for blackwood. Getting him without backup support is a massive gamble, but I used that money for Val who i've liked for a while and sadly (or happily for himself) got ahuge raise after this year.

Fair, and I like Helenius, but 1 point in 12 AHL games at 19 as a forward is kinda bad. Obviously he's never gonna be an offensive star, for reference Nylander had 45 points in 38 games at 19 in the AHL, but for an import for example, 20 year old 2nd round pick Vasili Ponomarev had 10 points in 11 AHL games to finish the season coming over from Europe, or the leafs brought over 19 year old Dmitri Ovchinnikov who is 5'9" and played 4th line minutes only, with two grinders to ease him into north American hockey, he still had 2 goals in 5 games.

Debrincat is currently 6.4M, cap goes up 1M a season. Let's say he gets 9.5M extension, that's 1M coming out of cap moving up, still gotta find 2M. Carry a 20 man roster instead of 23, and you free up about 2.2M. That's doable but rough for the 2023-2024 year.
In terms of the Hagel thing, yeah that trade was crazy expensive for tampa, and it was becasue tampa is in a worse cap situation than Toronto and guaranteed a forward at 1.545M for 3 playoff runs. This is 1 year guaranteed then 9.5-10M. He'd get more in my opinion than this, I used Hirvonen and Niemela as examples, could add in more picks as i said, could add in more prospects, frankly any prospects/picks outside of Robertson/Knies as we just need them to step in immediately (I basically count them as roster spots in the playoffs in 2022-2023 already), so if its 3 firsts, a second, Niemela, Hirvonen, abbruzzesse and someone then you do that. This is clearly a win now move, with potential to work long term if you can make the caphits stay steady outside of Debrincat, which is why everyone i signed is basically 3 year deals to get to the anticipated 2025 cap jump.

I literally said in the description, Muzzin/Kerfoot to LA is just cuz it's everywhere on this site. I just had to move them out for cap space, and couldn't take back anyone who'd be on the NHL roster. Could've done it for nothing, but I like Faber/Helenius and while I think the organization is high on Faber, Helenius is a 6'6" defensive center who still hasn't shown offensive upside at all, and LA doesn't really need more fringe centers so he actually would be realistic in an LA/TOR trade involving roster vs prospect. Faber was just cuz I like him. Also people really seem to have vitriol for it, so I admit adding in the 2nd too was a bit of trolling.

I mean honestly, I don't hate the Leafs trade as a Leafs fan, but I doubt we'd move Holl and a 1st for Blackwood, let alone since it's been reported Wood is likely going unqualified.
That Canucks trade is hilariously brutal. It's like an EA trade where you package a bunch of guys U25 cuz they techincally still hold value, and move them for actually valuable and solid pieces. Stillman Zacha and McLeod don't hold much value to me. I like Severson and the first, and while he was not good this season, I hope Smith can figure it out. That is nowhere near enough for Hughes let alone Hughes with Garland and a pick
Think Hall is worth well well more than that, and Seattle trade I'm cool with but I like Zetterlund, no idea if Seattle does.

Fair enough, I mean we could easily still do 9x7 and carry a 20 man roster instead of 22, I just thought personally that's Filip Forsberg's value when you're paying for the tail end of his prime and 4 years of 30+. He can prob ge tmore in free agency tough, you are correct.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>Yet again, the zombie Muzzin-to-Los-Angeles pipe dream. The Kings aren't interested in this effort to shed significant cap.
Absolutely no interest in installing Jake Muzzin 2.0 even if he would waive his NTC, plus we could re-sign Alex Edler for less than Jake's cap hit, and we would probably get the same results without having to expend assets to re-acquire Muzz. I wish that the Toronto guys would stop doing this. It's like the Montreal guys with their silly Jeff-Petry-to-Detroit trades. And one year of Alex Kerfoot doesn't alter the equation because we have an overabundance of younger, cheaper left-handed forwards, both wings and centers, who we'd rather give playing time to.
For the record, here are the figures for Edler and Muzzin:
Edler, 41 games, 3 goals, 19 points, +18, 52.1 Corsi, 54.4 Fenwick, would not cost more than $3.5 million to sign.
Muzzin, 47 games, 3 goals, 14 points, -6 , 48.1 Corsi, 47.9 Fenwick, cap hit of $5.625 million.</div></div>
I'm just going with what the Media seems to throw out a lot. LA has a plethora of NHL ready and prospect RD, and minimal experienced LD. Edler and Stecher are UFA, leaving only Mikey Anderson who's an RFA, and Tobias Bjornfot. You could re-sign Edler, who is now 36. Muzzin had a bad season with injuries, but came back and was very solid in the playoffs, which is why people think he could be moved again because Muzzin always seems to be at his best in playoff rules.
Also, July 1 2022 Muzzin gets a bonus paid out, after that, despite a 5.625M cap hit, there's only 6M of real dollars paid out across the next 2 seasons, or 3M per year of real cash. For a lot of owners post-pandemic, that matters. Whether LA cares or not, maybe not, but that is something that makes him more likeable.
Helenius is just a prospect I like, personally I like Brock Faber more, but I think adding a bigger RD like Grans to the pool is preferable so I chose him. Kerfoot has 1 year to UFA, but is exactly like what LA is using these days. If something happens to a Trevor Moore or want someone else on the Danault line to free up Arvidsson, Kerfoot slides in there as another PP/PK option who can play LW/C/RW. Just a versatile, undersized energy player, who's more playmaker than goal scorer. If LA wants to make the playoffs again next year, he's not the worst option either, although there's probably cheaper players who can fill that role, although 3.5M for a 50+ point C/W who does both special teams is solid to me.

For the record, Justin Holl outproduced 23 year old Maxime Comtois this season. His value is quite low right now, and getting a 4/5 dman and a pick for him isnt insane. I would turn it down if I was anaheim too, because I think theres a better trade out there, at least a Holl-level player with a 2nd round pick, but comtois had a worse season than Nick Ritchie, and he took a 2nd round pick to be moved (to also acquire Lyubushkin). Comtois if he has that season again is gonna be the kinda kid we see with questions about a QO. I think he'll rebound, its why I have him in this deal, but so far he hasn't shown hes better than a Pierre Engvall, and Engvall can play C and PK. Comtois with 33 points career high is worth more in name brand from breaking into the league young right now than on ice ability.

On the first two, a 20-man roster would not be ideal. I have Anderson, Steeves, and Kral on the taxi squad here as those 3 (and Rubins) would be my call-up candidates. Niemela will also sign his ELC and be given a shot I would think to show how he handles preseason, but he will likely spend 1 more year in Liiga. Also, $1,375,000 is currently on the cap thanks to Ritchie in the minors. If they moved him entirely, you could run a 21 man roster at the least, maybe find a way to do a 22 man roster if they save 150K somewhere in my salary projections. Mrazec trade I probably overpaid to move him, but as much as we blame media, every team does pay attention to Toronto. They know the Leafs are in a cap crunch, and need to re-sign Campbell. I don't imagine it'll be easy to move him if he doesn't play to at least a .915 in the second half.
I wouldn't say Amirov has struggled with the KHL (I've followed his season very closely) so much as he has struggled with health and ice time. He broke his collarbone in the preseason after 6 points in 5 games, and then missed the first month of the season. He played 3 games, with 13 min twice and 10 once, before missing another two months for undisclosed injury (likely re-injured the broken collarbone). He came back, played 1:02 and got an assist. Healthy scratched next two games. Since then he's been on the 3rd line getting between 10-14 minutes a night, but no special teams. When he gets ice time, he's produced. The issue has been getting ice time. His team is trying to compete and their top 7 forwards make up most of the ice time, and the youngest player of those 7 is 28 years old. His team is also currently shutdown with a COVID outbreak. I think getting him over to North America ASAP and away from that coach should be a priority for the Leafs. He's got tremendous puck skill and skating, but he plays a lot like a Marner in his defensive awareness and using his stick to steal pucks in the neutral zone. I think playing with Kampf and Kase early will help him grow on the defensive side, while being the primary playmaker on his line, and getting some PP2 and PK2 time. If he's not ready, I'd bring up Steeves and move Engvall to L3. I nearly had Steeves in over Robertson anyways.

Yeah I have Hickey in the AHL already. Maybe they find a way to dump him, but this lineup looks deep to me at O and G, with weakness on D. You're hoping either Salo can step in and be good immediately, or Dobson can pair with Mayfield with one of them off-wing effectively. Probably this team tries to pick up a LD, preferably with size that can at least decently move the puck. I saw it in another thing where someone traded Rielly here (with Mikheyev for Wahlstrom and a 2nd which would be the biggest W for the Isles since their 4th Cup) but they would need to find a way to extend him which would ship out $$ and no way wahlstrom alone gets a player of that calibre.

Tougher team for the playoffs
These are almost exclusively trades that the other GMs would do backflips over. Vancouver is likely to buyout Holtby, and Schmidt requested a trade, so you get both of them and give up a pick. Leafs have said they are keeping Holl (and based on recent reports, he would fetch at least a 2nd round pick if not more because GMs like large RD). Dermott or Liljegren individually hold way more value than Brandon Lemieux who himself was traded to LA for a 4th round pick. Engvall for Marchment is actually quite fair and Leafs definitely regret moving him as they thought they had Kyle Clifford as long term 4LW and he chose to go back to Western USA but thats about it. Nylander who is signed for 4 more seasons at a very reasonable number for Bertuzzi a 2nd and a 3rd is closer to a real trade, but we're getting the worse player. Lastly, Soucy is worth more than a 3rd same way Holl is. Large dmen are valued right now.
You have maybe 2 trades that seem fair, and moving Nylander is not the way to go, he actually showed up in the playoffs, and Engvall for Marchment isn't really a needle-moving deal it just adds someone who is smaller (engvall is taller/heavier) but hits more, that's it. The rest go from bad to horrible to firing the GM. Both the Rielly trade and the Lemieux trade would get a GM fired. Lemieux who is a 13th Forward/4th line wing getting a RD prospect who's ready for the NHL and a young capable bottom pair LD is hilarious. Rielly a prospect and a pick for a player who's going to be bought out or traded with retention and another player asking for a trade is so bad I wonder if the NHL would even allow it.

New Captain of the Mountains
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xqb15a</b></div><div>Vomit, Glendening, Gusev and Tatar are awful, just play LOC who is a lock for next year, Kaut (who should be a lock), and a better bottom 6 guy in your Landy walks scenario (which he won’t his agent is just negotiating in the press). Kulikov isn’t needed as they have Timmins and MacDonald. Oleksiak is interesting, but in a year Timmins and Barron could be better.</div></div>
Personally, I would take Tatar. He's a consistent 50 point forward who has better defensive results than you'd think. Gusev is a 1 way offensive player/PP guy, Glendening is a defensive 4C/PK Specialist. I wouldn't really want either, but at those prices, it gives you flexibility if you want a defensive player vs offensive player. Kaut I like and thought about including but the only opening was L4 and why make a good prospect play 8 min a night instead of 20+ to learn in the A. Timmins is young and I like him, but again, Sakic said they want more tough/defensive defensemen. He's a pure defensive defensemen, Timmins MacDonald are not that. Oleksiak is a 6'7" 250 lbs top 4 dman who is physical and fast. He is what Sakic is looking for, although Barron is great he's not top 4 at age 20, and Timmins might be but you can always trade oleksiak after a year.
Lastly, Avs have reported to have offered about 5.25Mx8years. That's hilariously low, that I'd be insulted if I was landeskog. That's why i have him walking.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Clement</b></div><div>Haha okay. Your comment is very hilarious, and will never happen. Wild didn't make this move of releasing both players if they didn't have a plan</div></div>
Not going to lie, it sure seems like they did it to *go for it* this year, because now they are paying over 12M for two players to not play for them from 2022-2025. In my scenario above, You'd need to find a buyer for the last two years of Zuccarello (another highly paid 30+ player), replace murray with a league min, and still might have to downgrade from Coleman or Talbot for those years. Not to mention that the last year of Parise/Suter at 14M dead cap will have guys like Rossi and Boldy on their post-ELC deals. I have no idea how the 2024-2025 Wild aren't absolutely losing good players to be under the cap; it's going to get ugly that year if they haven't gone deep by then.

Mirtle Reports Hyman Not Returning
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mm1010</b></div><div>I think you are looking at 5 for both.
and going with a 20 man roster is a horrible idea for a whole season.</div></div>
20 man roster is obviously not ideal, but it basically just means that if there's an injury, the player goes on LTIR. Preferably you have at least 21 man roster in case of day-to-day injuries, and you accrue cap space as the season goes on, but 20 is still manageable. If Schwartz is looking for 5M I likely target a different winger. I could hangle 5Mx3y for Saad, which lines up his UFA with Muzzin, Brodie, Matthews and Nylander. For Schwartz at 5M, I likely look elsewhere at somebody like Foligno/Hyman types. I mean, if its Schwartz at 5M, I'd rather just spend the 6M on Hyman and take a 2M 1B goalie.

I can free up over 2M by just carrying a 20 man roster instead of 23 man roster. Pre-pandemic I would have agreed, but Saad (while he did score a lot), people will note he played on the high scoring Avs and could push to 5M but I would not pay more than that, 4.25M would be my max on a guy like that. Schwartz is coming off so far a career filled with injuries, and produced at a 40 point pace this season. I'd wager Schwartz will end up getting a 1 or 2 year show-me style contract as nobody is giving him $ & term this offseason. If he wants term, he's getting I'd say 3.5-4M at most. If I give Saad 5M and Schwartz 3.75M, I can cover that on a 20 man roster alone.

Flo Riding to a Cup
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Nhl_oilers</b></div><div>They should attempt to get rid of Yandle and sign a cheeper guy like Alec Martinez, or Jamie Oleksiak for next year to take his place. That would give you roughly 2M extra on top of 6.6M to resign Barkov, Verhaeghe etc.</div></div>
Agreed, as said up there in description, moving Yandle or Stralman using the cap would be huge.

Expectations for 2021-2022
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Joey</b></div><div>Completely agree with everything. Hyman will also probably get more than that. I won't say everything that I would do but you can look at my last few teams I made if you want to know.</div></div>
Also, looked at your last team, and I'd argue Foligno gets more based on his reputation, Goodrow gets more based on his cups now, both by about 1M more even though it's flat cap cuz GMs love those types, and frankly I don't see why Dreidger who is the same age as Ullmark would get much different considering their base SV% this season and teams they were on. Hyman you had get 250K more which is fair, but otherwise don't know why you think that is more reasonable tan 4.25K, which frankly doesnt affect my cap at all.
