    How is it a bad contract? Last 3 seasons Hartnell has scored 20, 28 and 23 goals and has a cap hit of 4.75. Watch July 1st and see what a team pays for Lucic who last three seasons goal totals are 24, 18 and 20.

    CBJ does the deal because they need to protect Hartnell due to his NMC during the expansion taking up a spot that they'd have to use for the 7fw.
    I think however to make this deal you need to include at least a second rd pick.
    Then it gets done.
    CBJ frees up space agains the cap and gets something for a player that they no longer need to protect. Flames get a useful albeit older fwd and contract. In exchange for moving up 3 spots.
