Description

Do I agree with this move? No. Would I have done this move? No. However, it's clear what happened today. The Blackhawks showed commitment to its relatively new head coach over its 20-year-old RH d-man who is seen around the league as a potential first-line player on the blue line. Colliton didn't and was never going to see him that way. I've said in this forum for months that Jokiharju was going to start this season in Rockford and if you wanted to know why, ask the head coach.

Anyway....this is how I see the Opening Game roster shaking out unless Dach is ready immediately (which I don't assume will be the case) or De Haan isn't healthy immediately (which I also don't assume). The main issue is I don't see a perfect fit for Anisimov on this roster but he's a fine 3rd-line center to have at a fair market price for what 3rd-line centers are going for in the NHL.

from what stan just said in the press conference about the trade it sounds like they want nylander to play in the top 6. "with his skillset it will be very fun to see what he can do alongside some of the great players we have up there"

I don't love the idea of the trade either, but to ease my mind after a deal like this I just try to remember that the people within the inner circle of the NHL know a lot more about these guys than fans do. But yea, I agree giving up Joikharju at this point is a mistake and Nylander has had issues with work ethic and consistency, but maybe Chicago sees something they can fix in him

i wont lie , the deal feels lopsided but Nylander is a good fit for ChI top 6.
CHI had Ian Mitchell and Adam Boqvist coming up and they're a great talent pool for the Blackhawks.
they're wing depth wasnt nearly as deep so they made a move .

I feel it's a fair trade. Both are top NHL ready prospects. I would rather have the guy we groomed and know, but that's kind of a tie breaker. The rational has to be they chose Borquist over Joker. And they did trade a position of depth as they do have Mitchel, Krys, Beaudin and other top D prospects.

Nylander = 3 seasons in the NHL, 19 games, 5 points, .32ppg
Joker = 1 season, 38 games, 12 points, .32ppg

One is a winger who's supposed to score points and the other a defenseman.

It's not a fair trade....unless Nylander turns into another version of Dylan Strome. If he does, the Blackhawks present and future is solid...which isn't easy to accomplish in a hard cap era. My issue is I question Colliton's assessment of Joki and his future in the NHL.

I'd love to know who initiated this trade. Buffalo or Chicago? Did Buffalo get the idea that Joki would end up in Rockford to start the season and think "He could start on our 3rd-line pairing right now" and offered their former Top 10 pick?
