The 2 firsts are a bit much. I’d say they are about equal but Dumbas contract puts his value over Marners. While Marner is great, I’d take Dumba plus a 5m per year player over Marner anytime.

I think he was just undervaluing Dumba and not overvaluing Marner.

Besides, saying he wants too much money doesn’t mean he still doesn’t hold a lot of value. He wants too much for an RFA when the market has been set by Kucherov. Kucherov is older but asking for 1m+ more is pushing it.

The market wasnt set by kucherov. Superstar RFAs dont take bridge deals anymore and the cap has gone up.

Taxes matter too

I love leafs haters who complain that he should make so much money and then don't want to trade him for what he's worth. Which is it?

Just cause he deserves an 11 million dollar contract doesnt mean hes worth a franchise RHD + 2 firsts. Theirs no logic there.

I wasn’t suggesting Marner sign a bridge deal. I meant the 8 year 9.5m contract Kucherov signed as an RFA last July. While the cap hit has been raised by 2m since then, I am sure that was taken into consideration when Kucherov signed his new deal since he would’ve became an RFA again at the same time as Marner.

Taxes are a thing but it can also be argued that Marner wouldn’t be signing national sponsor deals with Intact, Beats, Visa, or Red Bull if he were to play in a market with lower taxes. I’m sure his natural charisma would net him some regional deals in those markets, but nowhere as lucrative as what he’d get playing in a market like Toronto or Montreal.
