Mcdavid is the best player in the world, he would be worth way more. bruins would take this deal and run

sure he is, but in a hard cap league and 80+ point player on a cheap contract and a number right shot shutdown defenseman at 21 are worth more to me than the best player in the world at a similar cap amount as the previous 2 combined.

Why? because i dont want to trade a number 1 defenseman and a guy that looks very capable of putting up consistent 40 goal seasons on a GREAT contract for the best player in the league whos cap is roughly equal to both guys combined? if mcavoy or pastrnak elevates his scoring by 10 points the two of them combined match mcdavids production. Who replaces mcavoy then as your first pairing defenseman?

and if you trade mcavoy you now have a massive hole in your defense. which would be why edmonton is trading for mcavoy in the first place because they need a number 1 defenseman.

This is a bad take and this trade would be grand larceny in favor of Boston. McDavid is the best player in the WORLD and I wouldn't say that either McAvoy or Pastrnak are even the best players at their POSITION.

so you bring in mcdavid, im under the assumption you arent doing this to flip him btw, who is the teams number 1 defenseman? where do you put mcdavid, center? so then you slide bergeron down to 2nd line center? marchand plays with bergeron so you slide him down and debrusk up. that means you want to move krejci to rw. okay im for that. do you put him with mcdavid or do you put him with bergeron. this team already has an issue with needing 2 right wingers and you want to get rid of one of them. Now back to defense. You dont have RHD depth in providence, you only have LH shots developing so where is your number 1 right shot d. this team is built around defense. Carlo is not a number 1 d. You essentially end up being edmonton if you take this trade with some slightly better players on offense.

But you can't look at it in a vacuum like that. Is mcavoy a number 1 guy? He has injury history, missing a 1/4 of each of his two seasons, on pace for about 40 pts a year (darnell nurse got that this past year) and having the luxury of playing with a veteran hall of famer like chara. I like the player, but let's be serious.

Pastrnak is also a great great player, but he also plays with a world class C in bergeron and a top 2 LW in the league.

Both guys are great, but in hockey two jacks and a queen are still trumped by an ace like mcdavid. Mcdavid and kelfbom (or nurse) > pastrnak and mcavoy. that's how i look at it.

cuz the oilers are doing so well with the team as constituted right? yes i believe Mcavoy is a number 1 d. How many 21 year olds are logging 25+ minutes in the playoffs on defense. He controls play, he shuts other teams lines down, he has offensive capability he just didnt score all that much. He will score more as he grows with the league. trade wise, sure boston wins that trade in terms of asset vs asset. Team wise, Boston is a worse team with mcdavid and gagner than with mcavoy and pastrnak.

But the trade is McDavid for two. You are leaving Nurse and Kelfbom.
