If you're trading for Barrie as a defensive D then yes you could say he sucks, but if you're trading for him you aren't trading him for that reason unless you're a total idiot.

Pretty sure the Avs would make that trade in a heartbeat though they'd still need a decent #2C to play with him. The Leafs, I very much doubt, would go for it.

So let's compare Barrie with every other Leafs D to see if he's an upgrade huh? Or to some of the other targets being bandied around for the leafs? Or even other players who play a similar style of game. Myers ESD +9%, ESO -1%, Sh. -5% for example. No good looking at him in isolation like that, you need to compare him with other D to see if he's actually any good. Versus the rest of the league? Is that versus rest of the league's D or everyone? If it's everyone, then you're comparing it to a myriad of forwards as well.

As I said, I don't think for one moment that TOR would do the trade. I just think it's unfair to say 'Barrie sucks' and then use either stats in isolation or if they're against the whole of the league.
