Not sure why calgary would do this deal. Gaudreau is just as good as marner on what will likely be less money, brodie is better than zhaitsev (only reason brodie is being shopped is for cap space so adding marner and zhaitsev to the cap isnt beneficial at all). On top of that calgary wouldnt be giving you a first rounder. Both trades are lopsided towards toronto mate.

I think If you flipped the first rounder in the CGY trade, it may be closer.
As for the Devils, they wouldn't give up one of their top Dmen without getting D in return

That's a pretty brutal trade. Johnny is cost controlled for the next 3 years on one of the best contracts in the league. That alone is worth Marner + multiple picks. You add in Zaitsev and that lowers the value even more from Toronto.

It's Toronto that needs to throw in the first. Not Toronto. Brodie is a good defenseman without an albatross contract. Zaitsev is the opposite. Gaudreau is still the slightly better player on a very team friendly deal, Marner won't be.
