I like Pavelski in Dallas. I normally shy away from guys in their mid-30's but Pavs hasn't shown any signs of slowing down. That being said, he is still 35-years old at the start of the season. I don't care how well you play, I have an extremely hard time giving a guy that age any more than a 2-year deal. It sounds like he's looking for 3, and honestly if he's dead set on a 3-year deal, I would probably shop elsewhere. Max offer I would give him would be a 2-year, $14.5M deal ($7.25M AAV).
If he wants 3 year deal, I'd give him that, but I'd probably plan the contract to be low in salary and possibly without NMCs for the last year.
For example, a 3-year, $22,5M contract, first year with $11M salary and full NMC and NTC, second year with $7,5M salary with NMC and NTC with 10-team trade list, and the last year for $4M without no clauses at all.
Just so we don't end up in Marleau situation where we must re-sign Heiskanen but are out of money because of his contract. Gotta make it a tad easier to get rid of if necessary.
