It's funny all of these insane overpayments for Pesce (not saying this is one), but people saying it takes more for Carolina to get fair value.. Travis Dermott is better defensively than Brett Pesce. & no one is saying that Dermott is worth all this insane packages.. it's the "right handed d-man that Toronto is interested in" overpayment special ay its finest.

According to what? Dermott's a great young defenseman, but he's that, very young. He's still got work to do.

Stats. Dermott is actually better all around. Pesce only beats Dermott in offensive zone entries

They are referring to these transition metrics. I also looked up their CA/60 & FA/60 and Pesce comes out ahead but I didn't really think it was worth the time to argue. Both are good players, and I'd like to have both on my team.

It wasn't a comment about arguing who was the better d-man, the stats tell that for themselves. The point was: that Pesce is overvalued on this site because he's the "right handed d-man that Toronto has interest in". & that if Dermott was offered for the same ridiculous overpriced packages that have been thrown around on here for Pesce, then Leafs fans are called bias, arrogant, people that overvalue their players, etc. Which you can argue all you want, but if you say that's not how it would be then you're completely wrong.

Kapanen + Brown is hardly a ridiculous package in my opinion. If I had to answer who I'd rather have Dermott vs. Kapanen + Brown I'd probably actually lean towards keeping Dermott. So when Kap + Brown appears to be the offer I personally am 100% on board given that currently Pesce is better than Dermott (Dermott is 2 years younger though). You might not agree, and that is fine. I just look at more than transitional metrics (but I do favour them considerably) when evaulating players, and Pesce is better in many other areas because of those 2 years.

First of all, literally re-read my first comment on this thread. I specifically said that I didn't think that Kapanen + Brown was an overpayment..
Secondly, Pesce actually isn't better than Dermott and the stats back that up. They're equal at best. So giving up anything more is a massive overpayment. Pesce only gets considered better because he's right handed. Which is one of the dumbest things about the league
