-NY takes on a cap dump and roster player, which balances a top prospect/nhl ready guy on the wing and the first. Hayes's deadline value was a first and a mid-level prospect as a center. CK is a winger but should command the same, if not better value, assuming he extends (non-rental). So a real good prospect and the first, balanced out in CGY's favor by the addition of Frolik's cap hit

I actually had this exact trade in the armchair GM I made but wasn't sure about Frolik to New York, I also didn't have Pionk in it. Really like this move and I think Calgary gets a great fit with Kreider.

No they shouldn't, teams take back players all the time in trades to facilitate the trade for the other team so the cap works for them. Also Frolik was a half a point a game player this season so not terrible and the Rangers could easily flip him at the deadline for another pick, could easily get a 4th for him at the TDL, teams would love to add Frolik for a playoff run.
This is a more then fair trade.
