Description
The number of cap dumps in the Edmonton trade may be unrealistic, over-complicated, and unnecessary, but I was simply brainstorming.
May have underpayed on Trouba, but personally I think this could get it done as long as there are no crazy offers from competitors in the Trouba sweepstakes.

OK so Kreider = 1st + Yamamoto + Pool Party with extension

So now you're looking at Georgiev + Pionk + Shatty retained for 2 cap dumps.... try again on this one.

Same thing with the Trouba deal. Trouba in this instance works just fine without the 1st rounder.

You can drop the 2nd on the Callahan deal. 6mil of dead cap costs a lot to take...

And you managed to put Howden as your 2C...

This is all kinds of wow.

Wow you are incredibly overvaluing Kreider, since NYR is taking two cap dumps maybe retain less on Shatty but you really arent losing much outside of Kreider.

You're also undervaluing Trouba, 1st is needed

Youre probably right with the Cally trade, maybe a 3rd instead of that 2nd

Kreider is not worth that much. Anyone else in the comment section ( specifically Edmonton fans) may agree with me. I think Kreider gets you the 8th overall pick straight-up. Adding one solid prospect, and another young player who could be really good if utilized correctly is just too much. I think Georgiev is not necessary in this deal, it just made sense to me at the time when I was doing it. If Georgiev and Gagner are taken out, and 50% is retained on Shattenkirk, I think this trade is more fair.
As for the Winnipeg deal, the Jets get a 2nd/3rd line forward who could put up 35-45 points in a season, a good prospect in Yamamato, a defensive defensemen prospect in Lindgren, and a late first rounder. I think this is fair. Without the first, teams like Detroit, Philly, and NJ can beat this offer. Plus, there is nothing that the Jets can be sure to pan out for them in this trade other than Strome. With the 1st round pick, they get something more promising and worthwhile.
Now the Tampa trade: I don’t see TBL giving up a first rounder to dump one year of Callahan. I think Keane could be removed, but the 2nd is important. After all, we are moving up 29 or so picks in the first two rounds, which is quite a significant jump.
Lastly, I don’t see a problem with playing Howden on the 2nd line. I’m also not the coach so I wouldn’t know best. My reasoning behind putting him there is his play in the beginning of the year last season. It looked like he was going to have a solid season with 40-50 points and things started going downhill as a result of his consistency issues. If he comes to training camp ready, and works his butt off this summer, I think he could be a fringe 2nd line center, but if not then I accept that I’m wrong.

None of this is bad. The biggest problem with the Edmonton trade is that in the real world, does Shatty waive his no trade and does Kreider resign? I'm not sure they would.

I feel like Kreider may sign because he gets to play with the best with best player in the league and Leon Draisaitl. I doubt that Shattenkirk goes there though, but if he’s looking for a change then maybe.

LOL

IDK how many times we have to do this. Kreider is the Pacioretty or Turris trade with a little extra because he's better.

How would you rate these assets: Yamamoto, Nick Suzuki, Sam Girard?

How would you rate these assets: Tatar, Kamenev, Puljujarvi

Would you say Yamamoto is a step below the other 2 ? I would

So maybe instead of a 2nd round pick, the little more becomes a 1st round pick. And that 1st round pick moves up in the draft to 8 because Yamamoto is a decent step down from Girard/Suzuki.

That's the rational response, instead of "nahhh Kreider ain't that good"

Strome =2nd
Lindgren =2nd
Yamamoto = 1st
1st

So 2 1sts and 2 2nds for a guy that will cost 7mil + and doesn't give you much more value than Tony Deangelo?

lol

Capfriendly really undervalues cap space.

The Callahan deal sounds a lot like the Bickel deal. They had similar cap impact.

That trade returned a 2nd and 3rd. Very similar to Keane + 3rd.

You know what Chicago added to make up for that cap dump Bickel? Teravainen....yeah you're gonna to add more.

What's the comparable to Teravainen?

Tampa Trade is absolutely B R U T A L. Keane is a future top 4/6 Dman and Callahan is cap dump at almost $6M! Taking out Keane and still it isn’t worth it being a increased pick from 58 to 27.

Pacioretty averages .7 points per game over his career. Kreider .6. That means one is a 70 point player and the other a 50 point player. Stop comparing the two. pach is better. And I'm a ranger fan.

I already gave you a revised version of the Kreider trade that I think is fairer.
For the Trouba trade, I gotta disagree on some things: Ryan Lindgren isn’t worth a 2nd, maybe a very late one, but he’s a third rounder imo. Yamamato is definitely not worth a first, although he was a first round selection. At some point in his career, he will most likely be worth a 1st rounder or more, but not yet. He had 2 points in 17 games with the Oilers which is not impressive. He had 18 points in 27 AHL games, which is good, but not too special. I agree that he’s young and still developing, but considering his small size and all the uncertainty, I don’t see him being worth a 1st. A 2nd rounder is fair. So that would make it a 1st, 2 seconds, and a 3rd for Trouba which is fair in my opinion. Also, Trouba does give much more value than DeAngelo. DeAngelo just showed us what he’s capable of this season, and there’s no knowing whether he’ll continue playing that well next season. Trouba put up good offensive numbers this season, and was solid defensively. The season before, he was on pace for 37 points. Before that, he was on pace for 45. Keep in mind, that he is still 25. So a solid two-way defensemen like himself is certainly worth what I listed him for.
For the Callahan deal, I see what you are saying and agree after looking at the history of cap dumps.

Kreider isnt as good as either (at the time they were traded)

Turris was coming off of a solid season and was big reason why OTT made a great run in the playoffs (and had a very good start to the season after with 9 points in 11 games)
At the time Girard was a solid prospect but was a 2nd round pick with a couple NHL games so his value wasnt too high at the time, if we're comparing values to the times they were traded Yamamoto>Girard
Kamanev is another B level prospect
Girard+Kamanev+2nd is basically 3 2nd rounders

Paccioretty is just a better version of Kredier, 5 time 30+ goal scorer
Tatar was coming off of an AWFUL season, he played just 8 games in the playoffs and had 34 points all season, he held minimal value at the time, especially locked up for a few seasons at 5.3+
Suzuki is very good
2nd is a 2nd

I dont know why Im in this with you because you think Kreider is worth JT Miller, Sergachev and a 2nd so obviously you have no clue how to fairly judge a players value

I believe that Paccioretty is slightly better, but they are comparable. Kreider averages .59 points per game. Paccioretty averages .7. This is quite the difference, but .7 points a game does not make you a 70 point player, it makes you a 60 point player. Kreider also played through injury for parts of his career, including this season. They are certainly comparable.

Paccioretty has quite a bit more value imo, Kreider has yet to hit 30 goals and Pacc wouldve had 6 in a row if it wasnt for the lockout season.

On another note i respect you for being a logical fan of your own team, doesnt happen too much on this site lol

First of all, thank you.
And to be honest, I think he can be 30 goal scorer if he puts in the work. Suppose he plays the whole season on a line with Zibenejad, I think he can put up 30. This season he almost did, and would have done so if it weren’t for his injury. Playing with McDavid and/or Draisaitl would make him a 35-40 goal scorer. That’s my excuse for this season, I don’t have one for other years though.
