Ottawa is like 20 million below the minimum cap floor, so whether Russell or anyone is garbage, they could be forced to take on salary for added picks and prospects. The rounder could be more in line with a 3rd, its a starting point. Nonetheless, Ottawa could very well end up with a couple "garbage players" before the season starts.

The sens should look to add bad contracts, I agree. But this is a terrible way to do it. Sens should add contracts, and get future assets in return, while giving up very little. Dylan DeMelo going to be a very important part of our D core for the next few years. He's going to be our number 1RD until JBD or Jaros are ready to step into big minutes. That's a good 2-3 years away for JBD, and Jaros may never be ready to handle those kinds of minutes consistently, potentially topping out as 3rd pair guy.

I also think the sens should avoid adding any bad contracts on the back end unless they decide to move on from Ceci. It's hard enough to hide how weak the D is without adding another guy to take minutes away from guys like Wolanin or Brannstrom if he makes the squad.

It's not about taking Russell, its about why would they give up a good young right shot dman for him???????????? No chance they move DeMelo for him. They can take bad contracts and get assets, not give them up, lol
