Leafs only have 6.5 million in cap space

According to Spotrac, Leafs only have 6 million in cap space. Therefore, they'd be unable to match the Islanders 10.5 million offer sheet (without making other moves).

Move Horton to LTIR and dump Browns cap to edm (Which seems inevitable). Islanders fans need to stop thinking they are going to offer sheet marner and get the Leafs back for signing Tavares. Just like Tavares, Marner will leave cap on the table in order to not play in Long Island.

You make other moves to prevent losing one of your best players for 2 firsts a second and a third. No questions asked

It is your thought that the NYI will poach Marner from the Leafs is your mistake. There is a reason why offer sheets essentially never happen in the NHL, executives get embarrassed and will do everything in their power to make it not happen.

According to other NHL execs, they think this is the first year where offer sheets are a possible scenario. I think Lamoriello sheeting Marner is a possibility bc of the Toronto connection and how vocal him/Trotz have been about acquiring top-6 talent.

Marner is much more then top 6 talent, if that’s really want NYI want then offer sheet someone under the 4 million range and don’t have to give up nearly the same amount of draft stock
