Not about to suggest that the value isn't there, but I would suspect that the Jets would want someone with contract control. Vatanen is the best player the Jets get on an expiring deal would make me pass. Might suggest Butcher instead.

To grase the wheel maybe taking Perrault's contract as well, freeing up cap space for the Jets..... also means you may get to keep that 2nd.

So my counter:

Trouba and Perrault for Butcher, Zacha and a 5th.

Yea, that makes sense in regards to Vatanen's contract. I overlooked the expiring contract. The Devils wouldn't have have any cap room in 20-21 if they resigned Hall at $10mil, Hischier at $5mil and took on Perrault's contract. They could buy Perrault out and create a little space but I think it'd be too tight. What if an extension was in place for Vatanen before the trade?

laugh I love how delusional people are thinking that Trouba signs for only $7 million per, This guy gives Myers $6.5 million and Trouba only $7 million when Trouba is miles better then Myers. Besides Jets beat writer Ken Weibe said that Trouba wants anywhere from $7.5 million to $8.5 million so $7 million isn't happening. He also talked to Trouba who stated that sign and trades aren't happening. Trouba wants to test free agency next summer. And he's earned that right.

Swap out Vatanen for Severson and I would think it would work. Devils get the better player of the bunch but Jets get 3 cost controlled assets. How has Zacha been as a centre or is he better as a wing?

I think that may depend on the dollar amount and term. Although given where the Jets are at, I think Butcher (or Severson, as has been suggested) remains a stronger package.

Reality is Vatanen is a pretty significant offensive down grade. And Zacha hasn't yet lived up to his draft status.

Myers is a UFA while Trouba is a RFA. Yes, Trouba is miles better than Myers but Myers will have multiple teams bidding on him to drive his contract value up. On the open market, Myers will most likely get more than he is really worth considering the lack of "top pair" UFA dmen this year.

Winnipeg certainly cannot afford to sign Trouba at his open market value and you're saying that he isn't willing to take anything less than that. Other teams aren't going to give up a lot in terms of assets to acquire him without an extension in place. If what you're saying about him not willing to do a sign and trade is true, the Jets are in a very tough situation. The Jets will most likely end up getting "rental player" value in a trade. Good for Trouba though... I'm all for players maximizing their career earnings and the best way to do that is to be a UFA the first year of eligibility. Whats the short term solution for the 19-20 season? This sounds like a potential holdout situation.

Jury is still out on Zacha. High risk, high reward at this point. He could very well breakout next year and become a 25 goal guy or remain mediocre. I think right now Zacha is better on the wing. Maybe once he finds his offensive game in the NHL they could try him at center. If I were the devils GM, I would be willing to make it work with one of Butcher or Severson. The Devils have a ton of young puck moving dmen and really need a #1 like Trouba.

Looking at Trouba's current situation with Winnipeg, Obviously he wants out of Winnipeg and Canada altogether. So why would Trouba do Winnipeg any favors by agreeing to a sign and trade. It sounds like to me that Trouba has animosity towards the Jets organization by the sound of things. So why would Trouba do Chevy any favors by getting a high return for him. More then likely the players that teams give up for Trouba would be good ones. Probably players Trouba would rather be playing with for his new team then giving up to Winnipeg. All indications are that Trouba is heading for UFA status next summer. Do you honestly think that Trouba cares if the jets get any thing for him or not. Yeah of course Chevy doesn't want to lose him for nothing. But currently it stands that he's a one year rental and nothing more or nothing less. It's just by every indication that Trouba has played his last game in Winnipeg. It's just now where he goes at draft time.

Vatanen at 50% retained and a conditional pick in 20 if Sami does not resign. Mikey Mcleod and our own 2nd in 19.
