With four goalies under contract, Toronto has no need of De Smith; Marner alone would be a gross overpayment for that package in any event.

I would say that it would be good, but thats like paying binnington 2.25m and bringing up Husso and sending down Allen. MORAL OF THIS: NEVER GET TOO MANY GOALIES

tough call on this one. Marner is a good player but Jake is very under rated. The guy netted 40 goals last year and he's on a sweet heart deal. And he has a history of being an absolute beast in the playoffs. Both are very young.
The rest of the trade the penguins I think are the winner.
I think this comes down to Marners cap hit and what it means for the rest of the team. It would depend on what else happens as well. Marner couldn't play playmaker on the wing for Crosby or Malkin. That wouldn't work. He's got to be a shooter/goal scorer to fit. Is Marner a 40 goal player...eh... maybe in the OHL. Not sure he can net 40 in the NHL he's never even broke 30. It's hard to get that high. But with how jake plays I could see him net 50 at some point. He just knows how to score. They are both very good players though. I just can't see fitting 11 million in cap space as a penguins fan though. Other pieces would have to go and then the question is, are they all worth it.

Kasimir Kaskisuo, Eamon McAdam, Garret Sparks, Ian Scott and Joseph Woll. I think that's enough goalie depth for the time being. Remember what happened when we had Curtis McElhinney and Calvin Pickard last year?

Yes and it was unfortunate, I believe that Jake Woll will play in big leagues next year, or a starter in the AHL

You seem to forget that kessel and crosby are goal scorers. Crosby can get 50. Imagine a pp with marner and malkin able to pass the puck to sid and phil.
The deal is amazing. Marner signing for 10x7. Dumping the shibranson contract and getting johnson who can play 2/3 line as a bonus.
I would do it any day any hour and time any whether any whatever
