Why does CGY give up picks to trade away Jankowski?

Ottawa is not a team I'm familiar with compared to 2-3 seasons ago and this is a live roster hence a work in progress. I chose Ottawa because they had the league's worst record and wanted to tinker. Was hoping to see what people's impressions were so as to learning about the team.


Gaborik is solely a salary dump with two full seasons left, and was to me a better option for a buyout but didn't realize Detroit didn't have any cap room anymore (since end of March).


As for Tkachuk - I still believe in the need of enforcement line contrary to the supposed shift away from aggressive hockey. Haven't figured out what to do with Ryan yet but doesn't have a future - need at least modest return for him. Temporary defensive fixes - also want to see how preseason goes for young guys to know who makes roster.

Bowey was a salary dump? When Daley and Ericsson are far older and far more useless. Still didn't explain why the Wings would want Gáborík if he hasn't retired yet he probably should.
