Tell me something. Is Marner really worth 4 1sts
Remember you got makar, Rantanen, mackinnon (1st oa), Kaut, jost, Shattenkirk, landeskog, Duchene (girard, bowers, and whoever you draft this year) in the 1st round and Timmins and Oreilly were essentially in the 1st round

Colorado does have amazing scouting yes, I'd say a hundred pt 22 year old who has all the tools of marner added to the roster while the avs are ready to win is worth as much as what they could possibly draft 5 years into the future, since they are already stocked up on prospects as you said.

I think is rather give up 4 late firsts than a makar, landeskog, rantanen, or other valuable roster player

How much of his 100 pts do you think are inflated because of Tavares. I am not saying that he is carried by Tavares but you are not giving him a Tavares esque center. Jost isn't even as good as Kadri (who he played with in his first 2 seasons) so i would expect a large drop off. Finally, marner is a PP beast on a very good pp. Do you think your pp will be as good as Torontos

Anyways, i think that Toronto would match that. You would have to go over 11 million to get him

Toronto has $8.7M in projected cap space. How are they going to match a $14M offer from anybody?

10.5 million cap. 14 if divided into 5 (which an offer sheet does). They move one from Zaitsev, Kadri, or kapanen

You expect somebody to help them out of either the Zaitsev or Kadri contracts? That's a bold assumption.

Kadri has major positive value. He would get at least a 2nd and a good prospect. Zaitsev would need to be moved with a small sweetner, maybe even kadri.

I would say trying to move zaitsev will become very difficult for the leafs, kadri would be an easy move, but is kapanen even taking up any room? You'd have to move Johnson too who will need a contract

You know between, zaitsev, kadri and kapanen that is over 12 million in freed cap space. With the 8 million already available that should be enough to sign Johnnson, meaner, and get a rd

Yes that would be 12 mill if kapanen was signed, as it stands it's only kadri and zaitsevs hit you are losing, and hortons LTIR...

as I see it marner makes at least 11mill because hes outscored Matthew's 2 out of the last 3 years, even if marner takes a bridge deal dubas screwed up by only buying out 1 year of Matthew's ufa which means as an rfa hes still making 9-11 mill per year...

Trading zaitsev is not a guarantee, he brings little to no value, at a big cap hit. Kadri would be an easy move but you still have to sign Johnson for 4 millish, get a defenseman and backup goalie

Not saying its impossible but it is doable, difficult but doable, Anything below 11 million and Toronto matches. Marner is worth the struggle.

I really dislike this idea that “Colorado is ready to win now, gotta just mortgage the future to try and win a Stanley cup this year.” Not that this would actually do that, but I see a lot of that and it just doesn’t make sense. Yes the Avs should be good enough to compete for the cup next year, but their top players are all in their early to mid 20s, this isn’t a one year window. If there’s a move that makes you better in the short and long term (which this probably would, but 4 first rounders is a lot) then yeah that makes sense but in a salary cap league, it’s always good to have a strong farm system to replenish your roster when you end up having to let guys go to make the cap work. Yeah they should try and win right now but this team should have a 10 year run of being legit cup contenders and every asset they have is valuable to sustain that
