If Kreider would agree to an extension with Montreal (a huge "if") that Habs would surely give the #15 pick straight up.

Shattenkirk has a 10 team no trade list, And i bet all Canadian teams are on it. He doesn't want to play in Canada. And good luck signing Trouba for any thing less then $7.5 million if not higher.

No one will look to acquire him if he is looking for anything more than this. He is a solid Defenseman. A young Defenseman. But not an elite Defenseman. As much as I would love having him on our Roster, $7M a year is already cutting it close for a guy who just put up 50 points (after never passing 35),while playing more than 70 games in a Season for only the 2nd time. He's going to price himself out if he thinks he deserves more than this.

Someone will offer him 7.25+ million. He's not elite, but he's a top pairing 2way dman in his prime. With the cap going up, some team will be stupid enough to pay him a fortune

I thought the same thing about the Panthers pick (since it isn't far off). But since I am not sure if he would sign an extension, I figured we would have to add the late 1st if he is just considered a rental.

Not disagreeing with you, Only going by what's being reported out there. Sounds like Trouba minimal wants the Ekman-Larsson deal i agree he's not worth more then $7 million at the most. But from what's being reported in Winnipeg that he wants at the very least $7.5M and probably much more. This should be an interesting summer in Winnipeg.

$7.25M I would probably, although reluctantly. Start getting past that and you're really overpaying for his services.

Ekman Larsson has never played less than 75 games in a Season (ignoring the Shortened Lockout year), and is averaging 45 points over the last 6 Seasons.

I think we're on the same page. But again, his production (as good as it still is) is nowhere near good enough to be looking for Contracts comparable to guys like this.

Instead of a pick this year you could make it a future pick conditional on Krieder resigning. It would have to be in 2021. If Kreider resigns it's only a third. If he doesn't they get a first.

I think instead of Smith in the buffalo deal u can sub in Shatty and maybe get a 3rd or 2nd back from buffalo with Scandella

That's been one of the most conflicting trades I have ever posted. Put it up in numerous different posts. Half of Sabres fans want no part of it, while the other half love it and would pull the trigger immediately.

Shatty hasn't been great, but I don't think they would treat him as a Cap dump for Scandella. They would want more compensation.

The thought process of that deal is that I give you a discount on Namestnikov, and a better Defenseman than Scandella (very few Defenseman that are worse than Smith, but Scandella is), then the Sabres would suck up that extra Cap year of Smith to even it out.

It could work with Shatty, too. But regardless of his struggles, they feel he still has more to offer than Smith if he gets past his injury woes. Might ask for more.

Shatty and Ristolainen would scare Sabre goalies more than the other teams goalies.

Sabres aren't dumping grounds for your poor decisions. The new GM is .500 on his own decisions...

Shattenkirk was the best Rangers defensemen in almost every stat dept, both advanced and traditional. Not exactly easy for anyone to be too successful in that d-corps. Especially with salary retained Shatty is a more than serviceable #4 dman. Not to mention theres a high probability Risto is traded. How in the world is Smith worth taking on for buffalo for shatty is not?

Well that's why I said you could get some higher picks back if you make it shattenkirk. I wouldn't just dump him for nothing

I hope so, of all the top-6 defensemen on the Rangers this year only Smith got more shelter than Shattenkirk. And nobody got more OZ starts. Out of the 6, Shattenkirk was the least likely to be on ice for a D-zone faceoff.

Doubtful. Even on the Rangers poor defense corps he's a 3rd pairing guy.

Why would EDM do that trade?

- Gagner's scoring rate with the Oilers was essentially identical to Vesey's this year, both are UFA's at the end of the year. Saves EDM $1M.
- Manning is buried in the AHL, doesn't affect the Oilers roster at all, is a UFA at the end of the year. Saves EDM $1M.
- Puljujarvi is a top prospect despite his well publicized struggles. He's still only 20, same age as St Louis' Jordan Kyrou for instance, whom many think is valuable. His career scoring is similar to that of Tyson Jost even though he played this year with a hip injury. Vancouver's Olli Juolevi was drafted with the next pick and hasn't hit the NHL yet, are people trading him for a bag of pucks?

Cause that's basically what you're doing here. It sums up like this:

Puljujarvi + 2nd round pick (#38 overall)

for

Pionk + $2M cap savings

GTFO.

If you watched even just a few Rangers game this year you'd know Shatty is far from the rangers worst problem on defense. When he was with a somewhat decent partner (Skjei) they were the best pair NYR had all year. Again nobody is saying Shattenkirk is a shutdown dman. That's not his job, but to say hes not even a top 6 nhl dman is blasphemous

Gagner spent basically his entire Season in the Minors. Scoring rate or not (over only 25 NHL games) Vesey is an absolute upgrade.
