Description
Edmonton has plenty of offensive talent but what they lack is skill at the back end. The Oilers currently hold the 4th overall pick in the draft and, if management is smart enough, they will realize that they can trade down and draft a defenseman. This could provide them with the opportunity to add multiple talents to the team and even gain picks. Philadelphia, on the other hand, who holds the 18th overall pick, has possibly the best stash of defensive prospects in the NHL. Unfortunately, the Flyers lack offensive talent. They can very easily hold their 18th overall pick and draft a talented forward to add to their prospect pool, but what fun would that be? I speculate Hextall offering a blockbuster trade to the Edmonton Oilers at the NHL Draft this year. Here is what the Philadelphia Flyers would look like should the Oilers accept the deal.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS:

MacDonald's bad contract is dumped on the Buffalo Sabres as they are always looking to hit the cap floor. MacDonald can help bolster the young team. MacDonald will go for a late-round pick. Slide the chosen pick up or down as you see fit.

Streit is traded to the Boston Bruins as they are in need of a puck-moving defenseman who can play the powerplay. 50% salary is retained in the deal because of the high contract. Flyers get a mid-to-late round pick in return. Slide the chosen pick up or down as you see fit.
*NOTE: only $400k is retained because of Lecavalier's retained salary. His salary will not be retained after this year due to retirement. Only $400K is retained so that the correct cap is displayed.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
All resigned players get a slight raise in salary.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Flyers target a defensive-minded defenseman in UFA (Jason Demers?).

Sorry homie. I'm a Flyers/Edm fan. If the Oil are trading the pick for a dman it needs to be a a player that can play. Morin is a year away arguably and they already have Nurse, so Morin would be nothing but a redundant dman in that regard

"Hextall has a good idea regarding the Oilers/Flyers. Trade might be modified to bring a more ready NHL Dman as Ivan suggested. How's this Edmonton's 4th overall for Provorov, Morin and Phillies's 2nd pick.

BOS would want more retained salary for Streit so that trade doesn't happen, especially for a 3rd rounder. Ghost was drafted in the 3rd and Boston already has an aging expensive Dman in Chara.

EDM wouldn't trade out of the top five unless they are getting Sanheim or Prov. Maybe Sanheim, 1st rd, 2nd rd., and 3rd rd. for RNH and a 5th rd. or straight up - most likely they are asking for Prov or no deal.

AMac isn't going anywhere especially without retaining salary so it makes more sense to burry that god awful contract in the minors and buy him out his last year like they are going to do with R.J.

No go on the Bruins trade. We already have enough 30+ D playing a top 4 role. Also his contract is huge, maybe if you retain 50% and give us a 5th you might get a 6th back.

I think Provorov straight up for the 4th overall pick would be a mistake by Hextall
