Description
Building a second line behind the big dogs. I think 8M may be a little light for skinner, but there is still over 1M in cap to account for that.

Trading Barrie over to EDM for RNH. Thought about making the 2nd rounder conditional. Maybe it can become a 1st in 2020 if Barrie doesn't resign in Edmonton at the end of next season? I feel like the avs protect Girard and Makar and EJ has a NMC, so we could lose Barrie during expansion. I'd rather bite the bullet now and get a huge asset.

Draft Cozens and have him be sheltered on the fourth line and be able to slide up and down depending on performance and injury to others. He'll get to play with Jost though so you could view this as a 3A and 3B line format.

In reality, Cozens probably gets a year in the minors and Kaut takes that roster spot.

Would love everyone's feedback!

There’s no other way to put this. I would love this. This teams top 6 is sooooo dirty they would be made an instant cup favorite. The only issue I see now is the Defense is EJ a #1 guy? Or is he someone that can play with another #1 guy and create a deadly pairing?

He is a #1 pairing defenseman in my opinion. He has been anchoring the avs blue line for years. He does everything really well. Plays sound defensively, can move the puck, provides solid offense from time to time. When he is on the ice, you know he isn't going to hurt you. Sure, he is no Yosi and doesn't bring the offense like Burns. But between EJ, Makar, Girard, and Zadorov I'm very comfortable with them as a top 4. (as a cohesive unit)

I like the RNH for Barrie trade idea. It was batted around before but I think the time may be right now for a trade. Although I am confused as why you would have to protect Makar in the expansion draft, would he not be protected?

Hmm, I was under the impression that you could only protect 3 defensemen. Does his RFA status automatically protect him?

It was made clear that once makar made his NHL debut he would have to be protected in the expansion draft

I'm kind of hoping CHI takes Cozens at 3 and Avs draft Podkolzin. He'll play a couple more years in Russia and it would allow us to protect another player from Seattle. Kerfoot and compher signings are accurate imo. I think Zadorov will want at least 4+ on a long term deal and I think the Avs should pay him. Personally I don't really want Skinner at that price, I think he'll get overpaid by some team and I don't want it to be the Avs. I'd rather they go for Brock Nelson or Anders Lee at around 6m per.

Barrie is one of my favorite players but Makar can fill that role seamlessly. Could be gone by first day of the draft.

The Avs are in a great position. They could stand Pat in the off-season and still be a better team next year. GO AVS!!!

RNH for Barrie straight up and Barrie goes to Edmonton with an extension instead

Otherwise, not bad work at all here.

Thanks! Appreciate the feedback. I was a little torn over adding that pick or not. The big swing was contract length. RNH has a pretty favorable contract and Barrie would be on his final year by the time this trade happens.

I don’t know if they trade RNH for potentially one season of Barrie.

I see where you’re coming from. I feel like 8 for Skinner would be great. Proven 30 goal scorer in his prime years when the avs window is just starting to open is great.

This team was fortunate enough to have the best line in hockey healthy for most of the season. If any of the big three miss significant time, this team doesn’t make the playoff. We need another layer of skilled depth.

Lee and Nelson would sign in NYI for 6. Anywhere else and I think they can demand 6.5-7. At those prices I’d rather shell out the extra million for the younger play who has scored 30 goals consistently.

Good point. He could be a good fit with RNH. But if we don't get RNH, I'm not sure skinner would live up to that contract unless we upgrade at 2C. And if Rantanen is gonna get a big payday, he's gonna have to play with Mack the majority of the season to keep his 80+ point pace.

I love this, Edmonton should jump all over it though their fans seem to way overvalue RNH. Personally I'd rather see them let Wilson walk and give Jost and Greer more of a chance, plus I think you're a tad low on the Z and Francouz contracts.

Agreed that the Z contract is a bit low. Francouz could probably be had for that. I don’t think other teams are lining up to sign him.

Maybe. It all depends on Barries contract status. He’ll be on his final year before being a UFA. I have a hard time seeing Edmonton roll the dice on losing their third best player with a favorable contract for nothing.

Yeah I think if you were just trading player for player it would be fair, but contract for contract Avs might have to add something.

You can protect 7 Fwds/3 defenders /1 goalie or 8 skaters total and 1 goalie

Due to him signing at age 20 he was exposed the moment he played a game for the Avs. And we can also ask EJ to waive his NMC/NTC clause to be unprotected so we dont have to expose a younger player.

I also wouldnt mind expanding that Edmonton trade to include Darnel Nurse to give us a LHD if we go offense at 4th overall. EJ is more of a #4 defender right now. I see Makar being the #1 guy going into next year if Barrie is gone

Defenders:

Nurse / Makar
Girard / EJ
Zadarov / Cole
